Geez louie I reckon the grey nomads thing could be a whole bucket list on its own ... How long would you travel for? G'day Anna, The grey nomad thing is slated for a 3 year run just on the north/south, ( follow the sun thing ), east coast section. That part, I will be concentrating on the bit between the great divide and coast, as that is where most of the population is ( with the occasional run inland ). I have some relly's over east in QLD, Canberra & Vic of which I could prob get a few weeks respite from the camper if need be. Also I will be doing some "house sitting" in this time to break things up. ( my mate Pat took 5 years to do this run in his camper van ). Also, I have done the nullabor run 16 times by road already on other trips over east for various durations. So this is not something that is totally new to me. Just the length of time away will be different ;D louie That sounds awsome Louie, I understand why you want to do the coast mostly but personally I would want to see more of the inland stuff as well, I guess cause I grew up on the coast I find it a bit boring, and find the inland stuff facinating. Since you've done the across Australia thing a few times now then I can see how that would be a bit boring .. that's a long straight ride eh I'm envious!! Do I remember you having a blog Louie ?

looks like we might have a ride starting up. Troggy how far you thinking of going. Hi Angel , Anything is possible ... but most likely I'll ride to Southern Cross as it's quite do able without too much chance of night falling while I'm still in the Wheatbelt on the way home and the Aussie Grey grasshoppers coming out in force. If I can get Monday off work I'll probably ride to Coolgardie or Kal , wherever Louie is planning to stop that night and then back home on Monday . Louie , call or text me when you're leaving the Midland meet point and I'll go and sit at the Wundowie turnoff and join everyone as you go by .. Cheers Trog

G'day Anna, Main reason for concentrating on the coast & the Great Divide when i do the big trip, is there is a whole heap of scenery/landscapes we just don't have over here. Not to mention all the little towns and quirky places I recon are to be found along the way.... as long as I don't get too close to the beach I'll be fine... ( not much of a beach person, think its mostly overrated, much prefer a good billabong ;D )... And no I don't have a blog. Just here and face book... louie. ------------------------------------- No worries trog, keep the phone handy... louie. ...only 7 more sleeps to go.... ----> where escape is immanent

You'll find plenty of waterways that aren't beaches along the coast Louie. I know someone over there has a blog that I peeked at once but forgot to bookmark, thought it was you, maybe it's roughy? Anyways that would be an awsome trip!! And worthy of a blog I reckon

Hey folks , As Louie knows from our last ride together , I've been concerned about my clutch as it was making some odd noises occasionally ... I've had the bike in at THS Midland and it doesn't look good , most likely a bearing but no promises . My participation in the send off ride now totally depends on whether I have a suitable bike by Sunday ... the little 250 crotch rocket they've given me as a loan bike is only rideable for about 20 minutes before I'm cramping up in both legs , so a long ride on that isn't an option for me I'm afraid ... Fingers crossed they can solve my clutch issue before weeks end ... Trog

Today it's good news ... THS confirmed that my clutch was definitely making a noise which even their mechanics could only describe as "like a fan belt in a car slipping" , but after dismantling the clutch assembly and some discussions with Honda Australia they couldn't find anything that wasn't exactly how it should be ... they reassembled it , adjusted it and now..no noises and a clutch just like brand new. Go figure. They have documented the problem and registered it with Honda Australia as something which will be repaired under warranty if it ever returns or there is any other sort of clutch issue in the next 12 months . So , I'm back in for the sendoff ride. ;D Trog

I'm sure others will post regarding the departure escort for Louie in his venture to the east. As we headed ot further west, bikes and riders dropped off the further east we travelled. Just out of The Lakes, we sped past Trog waiting patiently at the side of the road. He did eventually catch up passing a number of trucks and road trains to latch onto the the rear of the escort. There was a small amount of traffic including the odd caravan which proved to be somewhat of an obsticle as Louie's Shadow with trailer in tow had the acceleration of a turtle in soft sand. Passing slower vehicles was a chore! We eventaully arrived in Merreden a little after 1:30pm with threatening rain, fueled the bikes and stopped for a bite to eat. It was obvious Louie was at peace and on holidays - the small meal took an hour to consume. During our repas, the rain had gotten heavier so we donned rain gear before Greyshadow and I decided to return to Perth via Bruce Rock and York rather than the more direct route using the Great Eatern Highway. This proved to be Godsend. The rain cleared immediately, the roads were deserted and we were making good time. The scenery was brilliant, we passed small salt lakes and at one point, the salt lake on the left was a green hue, whilst the one on the right had a pink hue. As we travelled futher west, confidence in the quality of the road grew and I could hammer the corners at the speed limit and eject from them at plus 20. There were some small towns interspersed along the route and at one stage a friendly geriatric local waved hello as we turned past her home. There's nothing like country people for friendliness. Here and there I spotted samll churches set back in the bush along with the obligatory abandoned graveyard nearby. The rain held off and the cloudy conditions made riding truely comfortable. We hit York, fueled up again and sprinted into Perth for the final leg home. I guess we covered about 650 kilometres for the day - but they were 650 grin generating kilometres. The bikes getting a wash at Merredin. Left to right. Louie, troglett & Greyshadow at lunch Note:- Louie sans really cool sunglasses.

Bon Voyage Louie, As per the previous notes, good day, the weather gods took kindly to us on the way home, the roads were desserted, with gentle sweeping bends and plenty of straights as well. All ended safely and well good day out. Good turn out of WA Shadow Riders. Have a great holiday Louie and pass on our best to the extended fraternity at the big shin dig. Best Greyshadow
