Been reading about patches on vests and if they would cause problems for some. Not sure about in Australia but apparently quite a big issue in US if you wear patches on your back. Something to do with upsetting different groups. I know we make ours to suit us just like our bikes, and some mean patches are to mean something to us but surely we should be able to express ourselves as individuals with our patches as long as not offending other clubs. I also read some guys from Ulysses club got into a bit of agro from a HD group for wearing rocker on their back? Any views? Is there etiquette in this country regarding vest patches/colours?

There is and the ulysis group were asked to take the rocker off by some rebels members and mouth'd off to the saying "yeah and what are you gonna do about it" ...: they kicked the shot out of him , the rule is no rockers unless you're in a mc

The Ulysses guys got into a spot of bother because they had a rocker with other patches. Therefore somewhat forming a 2 or 3 patch look. As such Ulysses now have a rule. If you wear a large Ulysses back patch, absolutely no other patches are allowed on the back.
You can wear back patches as long as you don't have similar to 1% clubs. Nor do you wear top and bottom rockers, more so if they say what the 1% say, such as locallity, ect. Another that may get you in strife is a wolf or lone wolf type patch. This sort of says you are solo and not affiliated and some clubs resent may your presence.
Other than that, you can sport back patches, just be careful whats out there. A good source of info is your local place where you get patches sewn on.
For instance I get mine done at a place in Auburn, Sydney. It's called Gypsy Leather. He has been there along time and is regarded as Switzerland to the 1% clubs. In fact I was there a few weeks ago and several clubs were present getting colours done. Now they may not have been having tea and bickies together, but they were also not having a go at each other. Guys like this know what is acceptable to the clubs in the area and will give advice.
One he says straight out....NO Sons Of Anarchy patches. Buy them, collect them, mount them for your man shed, but don't wear them.
Hope that helps a little.

The general rule of patches on the vest is 'How much are you willing to defend those patches', patches usually broadcast the personality or lack of it by owner.

Think I am safe. Handle myself if need to lol. Thanks for your input. Showed a HD rider and no problem. Had I not already own the vest I would have purchased a shadow reflective. Maybe down the track..... Dont have as many as Cas lol

Being in & around 1% MC's in my past, Here in OZ, you can't have top & Bottom rocker's with a centre patch unless your 1% outlaw, & you can't have mc on back Or 1% any where on it, What I did was I have a lot of little patch's on the back, That way the 1% leave me alone & so do the cop's LOL, What some Ulysses member's did was joined the top & bottom rocker's to the centre patch making it one, Smart LOL, BDRGONZO- Spot on what you said, I see would be's around here wearing SOA T-Shirt's & Sweat Shirt's thinking there some thing & they don't even ride, Would like to see what would happen if they came accross some 1%'s, One of my mate's was going to put a Lone Wolf no club patch on his back, I told him the Lone Wolf outlaw club would have something to say about it, & if seen by them they would rip it off his back, they have been around for a long time in NSW, So he decided not to go down that path thank goodness.

I love the irony of the 1%ers proudly being outside the rules of society and yet making their own pissy little rules in relation to what an individual might want to wear. They are not the MC's of the 50's & 60's. Don't think that I'll point that out if asked.

I wear the large back patch for Shadow Riders Australia. Just above this is a small patch "Only ride as fast as your angel can fly" As far as I am concerned Its is my jacket and I will put what the bloody hell I like on it. As long it is not offensive, Racist or sexist. Or some clubs patch that I do not belong to.

'Jennifer is the best ride of life' but it might be offensive to all the Jennifer's in the world. cheers
