Well it's come time to sell my beloved shadow and upgrade. Not sure what to yet but over the next few months I won't be riding much due to life getting in the way so I figured I should look at the slow sell. But I've never sold a bike or car private for that matter and am after advice. Sell as is? Re do the rego? What's a fair price? Etc anything would be great. As for the price Q I'm struggling to find any 2001 VT400 shadows out there so I haven't been able to really compare.

Had a quick gander at bikesales and nope nothing older than 2005, which seem to be going for about 6,500. The guy who traded my 2011 400 is trying to sell it for 6000 so well I dont think there's a hard rule there. Look at the condition of it and go for a price with room to move would be my advice. Have you thought about trading it btw, you wont get what it's worth but if you are going to buy from a dealer it saves hassle .. I'm lazy so that's the way I went.
As far as rego goes, if there's nothing on it, then I'd say redo it .. just me personally I wouldn't be likely to buy it if it has none in case it ended up costing me more than just the rego, gives the buyer confidence.

Yup, agree Anna, a roadworthy, registered motorcycle is far more appealing to me at least. :-)

Dido to all said above . Easier to move a rego bike . Does depend on the asking price . How many k,s and condition is a big factor to look at .' Cheers Ray

Thanks guys. Had a chat to a few places today re trade in and got the answer of $2k. So I was a little disappointed with that but does save hassles. I think I can get more private. And yeah rego it is thanks
