Hello Everyone! I have copied and pasted this from another area as I didn't see the new members section!
Thought i would join what seems like a very active community! I recently passed my learner permit and just purchased my second motorcycle, the first was a Yamaha PW50 when I was only 6 ha! Im hoping to meet with some like minded people in the future, learn more about the mechanics side of things as well as the best places to go in Victoria (I'm from the UK but moved here last year).
The bike I purchased is a 1988 Honda Steed VLX 400. I believe this to be the Asian version of the classic Honda Shadow but I'm positive all of you will know a lot more about than me! The guy before me has however taken the baffles out of the exhaust making it the loudest thing ever. That also means it won't be passing its roadworthy! If anyone has any tips on what exhaust to get and where to get it from I would appreciate it! I would simply like to pass the RWC no problems. I would also love to begin to learn more about this bike and its similarities to the Shadow. You can't get a manual anywhere in English it seems! Also any advice where to get RWC in Melbournes inner suburbs would be great!
Im very new to motorcycle riding in general so go easy on me ;-)
Looking forward to contributing to the forum.
Cheers!

Hiya Parksy, welcome aboard.
I believe a few have put Cobra pipes on their Shadows and love them. Not the short pipes though, but each to their own. Someone will come along and help you out with the pipes of choice. You can always go to YouTube and just put in VLX 400 exhausts and something will turn up.

Thanks ray, I thought as much in regards to the VLX 600. Good to have an expert on such things clarify. The RWC is certainly worrying me. Its my own fault for not buying a bike WITH a RWC. I did check over the bike with a friend who has a bit more knowledge than myself and the only issue we can see is the pipes. If anybody can assist me i would be eternally grateful!

Thanks Dea, your bike is stunning! I will look into those then, I assume they will be road legal?
Thanks!

Pipes may not be road legal. I run Cobra's on my VT400 and have come up against Mr Plod once already. I however had original pipes still and swapped them over for the sound testing. Ebay may help you out with pipes, or ring around motorcycle wreckers. Just a quick google showed there are a few of those bikes in Oz. Otherwise you may have to get some pipes made. I am certain some of our Mexican com-padres can help with someone local.

Ive also emailed all the wreckers so we will see what happens I guess. Im admittedly very new to this and thats probably why im not doing too well! This is proving very frustrating. Im still trying to figure out which exhausts will actually fit. I knwo the VLX 400 is virtually the same as the 600. Im wondering whether newer versions like your VT400 would work...

I think somewhere on the forums ( can't remember where ) there is a place to ask that question, you could always post in the Mexican section oops sorry Victorian section or post the question on the Facebook group page. I am pretty sure there are members on FB that don't always log into the forums. That is of course you are on Facebook. Facebook Group page. You do need to apply to joinThank you for the compliment on my ride Yes I do love my vibrator

Thanks Dea. I have done that. I'm very eager to get this sorted and join you all for a ride! Just been quoted $500 for custom mufflers. Bit more than I had anticipated.

Hi parkesy, welcome aboard bud, I don't think they will fit but I have a set of original pipes off my 750vt your can borrow to get your roady. The 750 pipes will be same as vt400 pipes. This offer will at least give you a chance to see if they fit. I don't think they will as the VTX looks a little smaller than a VT. I could be wrong.
