Lane filtering is not allowed in any state. Filtering is only done under 30 km to get ahead a lights and intersections. Capers are still not up with the way it works. Also our lanes are kinda narrow. I'd also check with customers before trying to bring dead animal parts into Australia. Boarder control are very strict. My dad tried to bring an animal skin in and they took it.

Wow, thanks for the heads up Wendy Witch. My buddy would be sorely bummed if they confiscated any of his skins. What do you think about the horns for his helmet? I presume you meant no lane splitting on the hiway but when it's a red light you can go up to the front? All states is this ok?

SA may catch up with the lane splitting laws sometime in 2210, for now some do it but if Mr plod is close, you get pinged even at lights it's a NO NO If memory is correct it is only allowed in NSW and now QLD (I think) As for a ride together when you get here, I'm afraid we'll be away caravanning, we leave on the first of May for a 3 month jaunt starting with going North to see Lake Eyer in flood en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Eyre It's only flooded 3 times in the last 20 years or so and we have a rare chance to see it, so I can't miss out on it

Frank, Oh well we're not in a hurry anyway so we'll just plod along and maybe talk to an officer about local policy. Thanks for the heads-up though. Are you going up B83 to Marree and then west back down B97 or continuing west on the Oodnadatta Track to Coober Pedy? You and Wikipedia makes the lake sound worth a visit except for the possible road conditions.

As long as the helmet has a ADR Australian Design Rule's sticker it would be ok, Knive's are no longer to be carried on a belt Legally, If it was in your Saddle bag's in a Sheath that should be passable, Any thing that is stuck to your helmet is considered as making the helmet faulty ETC-Camera's, Badge's, Non Manufacturer's genuine sticker's, They are even booking rider's for tinted Visor's now, But I don't think that is going to last very long!!!

Hi Kuri, lane filtering is legal in QLD but with so many restrictions you can’t help but break the law, I filter the same way now as I used to before it was legal just slow down to 30 kph if going past the popo. Also in QLD you can wear helmets approved to DOT being your standards I believe, but as all of our state Premiers (Governors) are intent on seeing who can be the biggest nanny state these laws are not uniform across the country. I didn’t realise you barstards were coming north to Gods country so am now lookin forward to heading to the rubbity dub for a couple of schooies with some new china plates might even have a maggot bag with some dead horse while we are at it. Don’t pay those Southern’s too much attention about roos as that’s the scariest animal they have, now if you want some good photos come north and pat a croc. Cheers Azza

You and Wikipedia makes the lake sound worth a visit except for the possible road conditions. Probably going up the B83 to Marree then going on to William Creek where we'll park the van for a few days and go to the lake at least one night in the tent (if Brenda's back is up to it) do a flight over the lake from William creek then continue on to Cooper Pedy, there's a couple of things there we didn't do the last 2 times we were there, 1 is stay in the underground caravan park and 2 we didn't visit the breakaways The road conditions can be a bit tricky but we are taking our black top van there, we'll just drop the tyre pressure down to about 24 and take it slow after that we'll head for Broken hill then down the B27 to Mildura and home That's the plan anyway BUT we always take it day by day and the plan often changes when we're touring, if we find a spot we like we stop for a few days. The van is set up for bush camping, we have 12v power, solar panels and 6-8 days of water with us, we often stop for as long as the water lasts, if we're near a water source it can be a while. The lake part of the trip will be with 3 other couples, the rest of the 3 months will be just us and the road KAAAARM on May!!!

DooD, With so many state differences we're just gonna go with everything is illegal then we should be ok. LOL Azza, I like the way you consider Narangba "north". I'm sure the guys in Darwin would have some comment about that. Another LOL "rubbity dub for a couple of schooies with some new china plates might even have a maggot bag with some dead horse" Was that English? Think I recognized a couple of words in there. Hopefully that means some good food. LOLx2 Frank, Sounds like a fun trip but as you say the conditions are tricky we'll have to carefully consider that when we get to Port Augusta and talk to some locals about the conditions that day.

G’day Bloke you are gunna have to learn the lingo if ya are comin to Straila here’s a link that will help you get by. Some parts speak a different lingo again due to all the imos from the land of the long white cloud where instead of putting your grog in your esky, putting ya thongs on and headin to Bazas for a barbi you will throwen yo brews in the chilli bin slipin inta ya jandles and goin to ya cuzis hungi bro. We Banana Benders are in the north in fact anywhere north of the tweed is in the north until you get to Townsville then you are in the Far north until you go past Cairns the you are in the Cape but if you go to Darwin then you are in the territory. Later Dude

Loved it Azza, what a great post. Cool when I can't understand anything but it's still English!! I got grog, barbi and brews but not much more. My parents are English but obviously you guys aren't speaking that brand. So I guess the Tweed, after looking on the map, is splitting the country in half length-wise so right you are, north it is. Guess no one says central coast? So send me your phone number and I'll try to call you when we're in the area. Maybe I can practice the "new" language while we're drinking some "brews" round the "barbi". kurereyo at cox dot net is my email

It's that area about an hour north of Sydney. Such places as Gosford and The Entrance are in this region. Known for its fishing, great riding roads and 3/4 of Sydney's work force in residence. Damn I am glad I don't do that commute. Gosford is also the name given to long boots worn by sheilas, as the go half way to the entrance. Sorry for any sheilas I offended, but I am just a bloke.
