Hi all
Recently on a short ride i noticed the throttle has a tendency to stick a little - that is very slowly return even if i fully let go. After the ride i hit it with some wd40 and worked it in a little then let it sit. Last weekend I checked it and its now just about seized. It literally just stays open and its harder to close than open. I removed the air filter cover to get a better view of the other end of the cable, everything seems to be moving at that end ok. Hit it with wd40 also just in case and worked it in with no change. Interestingly, where the two accelerator cables attach to the throttle, one is quite tight whereas the other is quite loose. The connections are different one screws in directly whereas the other has a sort of nut around it that screws in thus seems to allow it the flexibility. If you have a 2005ish model take a look and I think you'll see what I mean. I'd be interested if anyone has a similar model if yours is also loose.
Has anyone got experience with sticking throttle? Any suggestions?

Both cables should be the same tension. Adjust the loose cable to match the tight one. The slack cable will be "catching on return.

I would think the cable is sticking inside outer casing, spray some cable cleaner or if you can't find any carby cleaner works then when dry spray with a dry lube like silicon spray or use a graphite powder. Avoid using a wet lube as it will allow grit to stick to it and will gum up the cable. If the cable is badly gummed up already remove from bike spray degreaser down it and wash out and hang up to dry then lube it up and refit. Azza

Thanks scrap. Do you do that at the carby end? All adjustments to throttle cables are at the carby end.

So pulled the airbox and tank off and got to carby. adjusted the cables and it had no effect. So I pulled apart the handle assembly and cleaned everything. Lubed the lot with WD40 and all good. Happy days, put it all back together and had a few quiet ales.
Next day stuck again. Grumble.
