Hi all
I'm Matt. I haven't ridden a bike in about 8 years. Been thinking a lot about getting back on one again lately. My story is that I sold my Suzuki GSX250 about 8 years ago when I met a girl. She left me earlier this year, so now I have single guy bike fever. In the 8 years of not riding I've lost the vision in my left eye due to Diabetic complications..
I've booked in with HART to do a private practice session to see if I feel comfortable on a bike again. I've got to build my confidence and also see if 1 eye makes a significant difference in the way I handle things. Balance, distances etc. I don't currently own a bike, but if all goes well after a couple of practice sessions, I'm thinking about getting a 1988ish Honda Steed Bobber.(VLX600). Planning on putting it on club plates to keep the registration costs down.
Has anyone heard of these? I'm finding it very hard to find reviews except that they could be an early Shadow, and are customizable??
Thanks, and if all goes well, look forward to meeting you in the future.
Matt

Hi an Welcome Matt. There are a few members riding these around OZ. A member in Caboolture are would be the closest. They make for excellent bobing by all accounts. You should be ok with riding again once you get used to it . A few good riding lessons would be the go . Cheers RAy

Hi Matt, good luck with everything, judging distances might take a bit to learn but I'm sure you'll be confident in no time. The VLX is interesting - never heard of them until recently and there only seems to be '88 models available. The little I've been able to learn is it seems Sumoto of Melbourne (http://www.sumoto.com.au/#honda) are behind the flood of '88 models available. love to know what the story was.
Cheers ... Mark

Hi all Just joined today!! currently riding a yamaha xv535, which I had to do to get L plates after not riding for 25 years. Am looking hard to find a vt1100 or 750, to ease back into it.

Hi Matt , I'm new to riding and the forum but couldn't help notice your comment about losing sight in your left eye. I've been blind in my left eye since I was not quite 3 due to an accident but once I adjust to not having that sight I manage fine. A little bit more cautious than those who have both eyes working but if you love to ride practice and build that confidence up .. You can do it best wishes

Ok so it's been a while since I posted my original topic message.
I've done some HART practice sessions, did the Advanced riders course there as well. Got my confidence up and regained some knowledge.
Then went out and bought this.. I get it next weekend. I think the only change I wish to make to it is removing the pegs and replacing with Highway Boards.

Can't remember if I got the email Ray. Maybe add me to the list again. Although I noticed you're in QLD, and I'm in VIC, does this make a difference?

Thanks Ras. I've had the licence for 10yrs +, but haven't ridden for the last 8 yrs. The courses were just to get a feel for it again prior to deciding if I wanted to buy a bike.

Ho Matt and welcome to the SRA forum. You need to also register with SRA. Go to the SRA website at wwww.shadowbikers.net and on the home page there is a registration area. Fill that in and submit. I will then process your registration and send you a registration card and other information about SRA. You will then get emails about SRA rides and other events in Victoria.

Lolol Matt, one does not decide on wanting to buy a bike, one only decides on what bike to buy.
Stay safe...Ras
