Hello. I joined this forum hoping to find some info about the VT1100. I just sold a BMW F800GS and previously had an FZ6. I am now seriously thinking about moving to a cruiser. I saw a 1995 model VT1100 ACE for sale and I really like the look of it. I know it is an old bike, but I don't mind an old bike if it is in good condition. Does this bike have any known problems besides the usual wear and tear for a bike that age?
i figure if I can find something a bit older, it would be cheap enough so that if it turns out a cruiser is no for me, then I could sell it in about a year without losing too much money. I have taken a couple smaller cruisers for a ride and really enjoyed riding them. I had access to an old (about 1984) Shadow 500 for a couple weeks and had a great time on it. I also test rode a 2011 VT750S and a 2003 Harley Sportster 883. They were both nice rides. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed riding the Harley. I had never given Harleys a second look prior to now. I like the idea of having a bigger engine and the 1100 sounds like it might be a good bike even for its age, and I like the shaft drive. Did I also mention I really like the look of the bike?
If anybody could provide me with some good information on this model bike or point me in the right direction, it would be very much appreciated.
Cheers, John

Hi John and welcome to the forum. I have a 1998 VT 1100 aero which I have had since new and it still looks new. I have never had any mechanical problems and I have not had to replace anything except that which I have chosen to replace ie chrome, accessories and a bit of bling. I am more than happy with my bike and recommend the 1100 to anyone, whether an ACE or Aero. It is a good smooth ride and the 1100 motor has enough power to keep you happy. I am sure that if you purchase it and providing it is in good mechanical condition, you will thoroughly enjoy the bike.

Hi George, thanks for the reply. It looks like a really nice bike..ill give the seller a call and try and arrange to go check it out up close. If the description is accurate, it should be a good bike.

You cant go wrong with a vt 1100 I also have an aero 1100 with over 108thou on it and they really are reliable rides. While they do have their niggles 95% can be fixed at home easily if your mechanically inclined, and there are a few internet vids also
