Hi guys! Hope everyone's well.
Quick question ... gotta love this new bike of mine its kept me on my toes since the minute we purchased it...(makes me miss my original girl all the more) We are having trouble getting the key in and out of ignition... to the point last time I rode it I left the darned key in it cause I was almost stuck at garage after filling it up because I couldn't put key back in ignition to start ...
vt400c Shadow 2011 model..... will just getting a new key cut and coded help or is this a regular "thing" and can something be done about it ? Key and ignition do not look damaged at all ...lol hubby pulled ignition off but quickly put it back on when I gave him the "do you know what you're doing??? " lecture hehe pretty sure that means he was just guessing
Please and thank you for any hints

Hi Renie; Yes it does happen at times . You say you checked the key . Make sure it is dead flat with no slight twist . The barrel sometimes dries out a bit so a good squirt with some electrical safe spray and slide the key in and out a tab . Think i even used a lanalon spray once . Doesnt take much to jam it . You should have a spare unless it didnt come with one ,be handy to get one . Even run a smooth file over the key edges ,slightly does it though . Ok after all that i take no responsibility iff all fails . Dont want one of your looks . Cheers Ray

Thanks Ray, I will save the Looks for hubby he's used to ignoring them haha

hahahaha sorry nope hubby isn't a techno(he swears at technology, until I threaten to ban him from it hehe ....a lot!!! )Hes the mechanical one I'm the ...other one.....lol I'm pretty awesome with technology .... Key is going to cost us $50 then cost to take it and have it cut then back to Honda to have it paired ...she never said anything about an extra cost there but I'm reckoning $50 for a blank key should just about cover that but we will see. Its worth the cost to have the spare because if I break a key or someone loses it **IT will hit the fan lol so the prevention money would be well worth it .
Heading to Dubbo for a ride to try a new temporary seat on this Wednesday so will check out key situation while I'm there....as long as the rain doesn't come back, the roads are bad enough to ride around here atm without adding more flood waters

$180 is a lot cheaper than over a grand if you don't have any keys or code number tag.
cheers,
spinal.

This is my experience from 2014. I then posted about getting a new key cut.
"So in the end, I just went to my local Honda shop and ordered one from them. It came in the next day $42.80. I then went to a locksmith up the road and he cut it to the key code for $26.00 as the original key had worn down a fair bit.
Then back to Honda where their service department coded the transponder for $50.00."[/font]
