I take it into a mechanic to get it tuned because it was running rough. $500.00 later exhuast is backfiring like crazy on decel and still doesn't run right. He said he has adjusted the jet in one cylinder more then then other because one side was to lean and the other to rich. Now he is saying because the exhaust that is on it is to big which is causing back pressure. He said something about putting a smaller pipping of some sort down through the exhaust or get a smaller exhaust which should eliminate this problem. (Only problem was I got all this information second hand as I had a mate pick my bike up from them). So what is this pipping I need that I can buy to get this fixed as I want to fix this problem sooner rather than later.
Is tuning and doing the jets really that hard? As another $500 on a bike I paid $3000 for just doesn't add up for me.
Thanks Andrew

So I turned the air fuel mix screws, old mate I brought it off had scratched were he needs to put them and once I did that she runs perfect now, Im gob smacked about it to be honest however the popping on decel is still there. I might buy some baffles for it to see if it does stop it. Spinal I have no idea what brand or what exhaust it is at all. Apparently the guy ended up putting a bigger jet in one cylinder and a smaller in the other to even it up. Believe me I thought I have spent $500.00 for this guy to not fix my bike i was ropable at the time i was ready to fire up lucky they were shut when I got told all this information. I could possibly be able to get the the width and of the exhaust for you if you need any information like that? I am not keen on spending $1000 for an exhaust either so out of the question.

can you post pictures of the side of the bike showing the exhaust please? What year is it?
a big jet in one and a small in the other does NOT sound right, is this guy a back yarder?
I have a mate who has an older 750 and he gets a back fire on deceleration at times, gets a nice flame out of it as well but he has 2 in one pipes on it

Yes that model is an Ace version and of course a carby. Be good to see what pipes are on .Most likely an aftermarket set or the originals have been gutted out .A pic would be great mate

ok looked at your pic's of pipes, nothing wrong with them being to big, they look like straight shots, similar to vance and hines. check and see if there are baffles in them, rejetting each cylinder unheard of let alone possible to do,carby has 2 main jets.this guy is full of it. popping on decal is normal for aftermarket pipes it will not go away completely.if it's back firing your air/fuel mix is not correct.i would get my money back he's ripped you off and doesn't know what he's doing. if the pipes where on there when you got it and running ok fail to see why it would need rejetting. putting on aftermarket pipes is not a big job it's straight forward shouldn't have to re jet, just Adj air/fuel mix, but if you put a air filter like K&N which lets in more air to the carby you need to change the needle and bigger jets then adj air/fuel mix to even out. i wouldn't let this mechanic touch my bike. have a look at this for rejetting a carby. www.dynojet.com/pdf/1182.pdfcheers, spinal.

It's going to be hard to get your money back but give it a go, it sounds bloody fishy to me and I'm no mechanic

There are no baffles in the exhaust which is why I might look into that just don't know where to start. The guy I took it to was recommended from another bike mech because he couldn't fix my problem (which was weird and sent me to this guy who has been a bike mech for over 20 years and worked on harleys) It will be hard to get my money back as a lot of the cost is labour im sure. Im sure its popping from this exhaust but would still like to lessen it but now the bike is going great guns I can put up with it for a while. I will look on google to see if it is heard of changing the main jets the way this guy did mine. Thanks for your input guys.
