As most of you are aware, SRA has been gaining new members on an almost daily basis. What started as a project to set up a central discussion area for honda shadow riders has grown to the extent that we will be welcoming our 200th member to SRA over the next month or so.
As we grew we put out the call for co-ordinators within each State and have been very fortunate to have the likes of Angel (WA) and Steve and Ray (Qld) who have continued to raise the profile of our group on opposite sides of the country and attct membership through regular rides. Although we have lost our NSW co-ordinator to another group recently I have hopeful someone there will answer the call sometime soon along with SA and Tas.
With new members joining and looking to SRA for regular communication and activities the time has come to put in place some additional structure within our organisation. Changes have been slowly introduced over the past 12 months and during this year further, more substantial changes will be made.
SRA membership is free to everyone, and with the recent introduction of membership badges and membership numbers every member can now feel they are an integral part of a group that is moving forward with both integrity and pride. Website and running costs are covered through the sale of SRA merchandise, and we will continue to offer free membership based on this system.
But as a group with such increasing membership the time for putting in place an SRA Executive has now arrived...
In the first instance I am approaching members personally to enlist their support in taking on a position. My choices are based on my understanding of the persons ability, availability and reputation and respect gained within SRA. Each position is being offered on a 12 month basis with nominations and votes being taken this time next year for the positions. This will then set in place the democratic process that will carry us through into the future.
Positions that will be created are on a national level will include:
President
Vice President
Secretary General
Road Captain
Communications (Public Relations) Officer
As founding member I will keep the role of president for the next 12 months when it will be open for nominations along with all other positions.
I will announce the other postion holders in the next few days.
Membership cards will now being issued to all members with their member number and date of joining. These will be posted out at no cost over the next few weeks. New members will get one sent upon registration. Again no charge is being made for this or the SRA business cards that can be requested. A few cards will be included in the envelope with your membership cards for distribution.
A new constitution will soon be drafted in consultation with all new incoming executives to clearly define our organisation as an "owners group" and not a "motorcycle club".
I am hopeful a national monthly newsletter email will soon make its first appearance and will include all state news and items of interest and will be sent directly to every registered SRA member's email address. In this way we will have regular contact that's not dependent on visiting the Forum or Facebook for news and information which may then reflect in lgreater ride participation.
More SRA items are in the pipeline including tribal SRA arm patches and stubbie holders. All items are sold for just a few dollars above cost to allow free membership so please continue to support us through the purchase of our SRA merchandise.
Please try to be supportive of the changes and see it as I do as a giant leap forward for us all as a group.
