I've tried to find some info on the net on raising the front end on my bike, I've found tonnes of threads on lowering but nothing on raising it. I'm pretty heavy so the front Sags down and bottoms out occasionally. Can you get heavier springs? Does anyone know where from?

Jim, i had the same problem with bottoming out going over bumps. I got the dealer to put in heaviest oil for the forks. 15 grade I think from memory. Made a big difference. Cornering is lot better. But may I suggest you go with progressive springs front and rear. Simon from Bad penny custom in Perth can supply. He is a member and will see you right. If you go to the bring and Barney section in the forum and look under Interesting Web sites you will find his Web site at the top of the list. Also you can look at any of the sights there, but are mainly o/seas. . Can you send me your pH no and we can chat on it. Hope you can do our new to ride in July. 0488758725 is mine again. If you over in Gympie again let's know mate can catch up. Cheers Ray

For sure. Let me know details of the ride and I'll see what I can swing. Does this group get involved in the red boot ride?

Well, I think I've found a solution. Only cost me 11 bucks. I put a brick under the frame to get the front wheel off the ground, took off the caps on the top of the forks (22mm socket and breaker bar), Caution, only take one fork cap off at a time and don't take the other off till you finished the first. went to super cheap and bought 2 SCA 1" sockets (not the deep reach they are too long) they are the perfect width to cover the top of the spacer and the bottom of the cap but still fit down the tube without too much play, put the sockets on top of the existing spacer tube to extend the spacer, ( I put the ratchet side down to the fork spacer, it seemed to sit better.) Put the caps back on (there was quite a bit of tension in the spring now)(had to get someone else to turn the ratchet for me whilst I pushed it down and lined it up) (had to be careful not to cross thread as caps are made of aluminium) Tightened them up (not too tight, just firm) Now she sits about 1-2" higher in the front end. Going to take it for a longer ride tomorrow (only rode from supercheap back to work ( 800meters) to see how it handles and see if I need to put thicker fork oil in. It feels a lot firmer in the front and on the short ride didn't seem to bounce at all so I think I might get away with the stock oil.... only tomorrow will tell. Certainly a lot cheaper than 100 bucks for progressive springs. Nice little mod me thinks

Should of been able to ,thinking about pull out the sapcers and put longer ones in . PVC piping is used from what i,ve seen .Would not be as harsh as a metal socket in there . Very interesting BJ and well done . Good to see people having a go mate . Cheers Ray

I did read about PVC but I thought that with my weight on there PVC wouldn't be strong enough under heavy braking. The stock spacer and the spring are metal anyway, and the caps are aluminium. In effect I've just extended the stock spacers 1.5". There is no room for rubbing or sideways movement in there so I can't foresee it doing any damage. And it's not "topping out", it still has room to drop an inch if I hit a bump. About to ride it home from work in 20 mins so I'll have a better idea then (I live 2km up a dirt road 10km from town so that should test her out).

WOW. The ride home said it all mate. No more diving left or right when braking in the corners the whole front end feels tighter. and even on the pot hole filled dirt road it didn't bottom out once. Loving coming up the driveway into the car park entrance I have frame clearance now, no more scraping!!! it feels like a new bike. I'll ride her for a week and pop one side out to check if it is damaging anything, but I'm pretty sure it won't, its all a snug fit. Great job BJ. May do the same as i still have some dancing around in the crns. lets know how it looks inside as you said .You reckon then it has raised the front end up or just being stiffer ,less bottoming out up your driveway . Cheers Ray
