It was a sad sight to see my Shadow loaded on a trailer after a stick (which I didn't see till I stopped for lunch) punctured my main cooling hose. Thanks to Honda Rider Assist help arrived (in Korrumburra) within 30 minutes and 10 minutes after that it was up on a hoist at the Honda Dealer in Leongatha. Bad news was, no replacement hose! and none expected in Oz until 9 September. I convinced the Service Manager Frank that an emergency repair was needed (I wanted to get home after all) and a piece of inner tube, lots of superglue and a couple of cable ties later I was able to start the engine and cross my fingers. Ran it for 5 minutes and all was well so off on the 75km trip home, checking the hose every 10km or so. Didn't lose a drop and arrived home safely. Thank you Honda Rider Assist and thanks to Frank the mechanic who wouldn't charge me.

On the other hand what's with Honda not having basic parts in stock in Aust ? Not like they haven't sold many VT's since 2004.

G'day , Glad you got home ok, I see Honda Aust. are up to their usual standards with parts that they have in stock. Several years ago on a group ride I broke a clutch cable coming out of Cowra, with a little help from my friends with a push to get moving I rode the last two days of the ride home. Monday morning I call my local dealer to find out that Honda Aust don't have stock and it would have to come from Japan, so I ordered two cables in case I break a cable next time I'm away on a ride. One of the most popular cruiser around and Honda are too cheap to stock a $20 cable , so I am not surprised they didn't have a hose. I cant just pop down to the local dealer as he is in another town, so I have taken to stocking my own spare parts , and practicing preventative maintinence.

Worrying to read missinglink's story about the clutch cable. I would have thought that there would be an extensive stock of spares at least on a national level. With today's delivery services that would mean you're back on the road in two days at most. I thought I'd write to Honda Motorcycles Australia to advise them to explain their spare parts policy but the 'contact us' link on their web site is out of action 'for maintenance'. Looks like they don't want to talk to us either.
