cut and pasted as promised from this weeks meet & bleat thread...
Well it was another good meet & bleat. Unfortunately due to crap weather only a few turned up. But club business was discussed.
One of the key points raised was a leadership spill. There has been mumblings for quite a while about the fact that the current leadership has not been on many rides ( not that there has been many of late ) & does not organize any events or rides, & has almost been a no-show as far as meet & bleats are concerned. Some of the thoughts that were discussed ( unfortunately after the leadership left ). Was that we are not second fiddle to Perth Street Bikes, ( or any other club for that matter ), our rides are not to be posted as a curtacy to SRA because "I am really a member of another club but will cut & paste my ride to SRA" or " I only give you SRA riders a Monday notice of a Sunday ride". Or "I don't give any more of my time to the leadership role because I have other priority's & don't consider SRA that important"
It is my opinion that we should sort this issue out once and for all, as this is only detrimental to our WA branch of the club.

Hmmmmm - not really fussed. If people want to ride - they will. If they don't want to - that's their business. Never EVER EVER EVER see this forum as second fiddle to PimplesStupidityBullshit - its nearly as bad as Net Rider. Whereas there's another m/cycle forum I know where the owner and a number of the mods don't ride anymore - its not a problem there!
If I have time, I'll join a ride, post a ride or post a comment - doesn't mean I don't care, it just means I'm time poor.

Mind you, when I saw the title my immediate thought was, "FFS! Jayne's fallen over again."

Now for my 5c worth...
The group has been fairly quiet over the last couple of months. Is it due to this crappy weather we've been having? Or because a few of us have had recent spills? Some more than once :-( Or have other commitments that can't be broken? In any case we all have our reasons why we may not turn up to an organized event. Yes it's been a while since we had a group ride and the posting of a ride is definitely few and far between. However when this crappy weather finally lifts and we're back to the normal "Blue Sky and Sunshine" we'll all be itching for a ride.
As far as a Leadership Spill goes, well my view is that it's Jayne's call as to whether she wants to continue on as our State Coordinator or wants to relinquish the role. Regardless of her decision, it's still up to all of us to contribute to the success or otherwise of SRAWA. Be it through contributions to the forum, joining in on events such as the monthly meet & bleat or posting or going on a group ride.
But hey! Even I've been lax of late. Pretty much in hibernation but certainly looking forward to getting out there again and hopefully see the sheep and llamas getting nervous around Fred!

OK , for those of you who weren't there on Sunday , I'll just chip in 2c worth here mainly so my place in this isn't misconstrued. I was the one on Sunday saying "everyone needs a voice in the future of the group over here , be it under Jayne's continued role as State Coordinator or with someone else at the helm." As one of the people who have been approached by Jayne to possibly take on the SC role if she steps down ( I have no reason to hide this from anyone ) I wanted more than anything to be sure that no one was excluded from the process of change , if thats what happens. In my opinion and thats all I ever express , I'd like to see the group become a tad more proactive ..I see a Hell of a lot of Shadows out there on Perth roads the owners of which don't even know we exist . I feel thats a place we're falling down . The only way to have a decent sized group is to promote what you have . We will always be up against the attitude that Shadows are a "transition" bike , so people will always come and go. But a bigger core membership of people who , like myself and some others out there , really see no reason to "transition" and are quite happily Shadow owners for the long haul will ensure that more rides will have more than just a few people on them . I cant see that this "larger core" would ever alienate our friends and fellow riders who do make the switch to another brand/bike as this group is social first and should remain so. I completely understand Scraps comment about people being "time poor" . I fit that bill entirely , generally I leave home at 7am and dont get back again until 9pm with an average round trip of 130 - 150 k's a day everyday...what little time I have outside that is precious , but I will still find time to be active in the things I enjoy and this group is one of those things. Yes , the group has and will sometimes take the backseat to "real life" and I would never criticize anyone else doing the same but it will never play second fiddle to any other rider's group I may join in the future ( this is my only group at present , by choice and that's unlikely to change). I think "Leadership Spill" may have been a bit of an overdramatic title for the thread , I see it more as a time to discuss what we all want from the group and how we are all prepared , or not as the case may be , to be a part of it's continuance and future . Mostly , as I said before , I just want everything to be out in the open and everyone to have a voice. Cheers Trog

When you guys sort things out and find a way of getting people to come on rides Let me know please. I've give up trying to make the Victorian group any bigger, George & myself have come up with monthly meets same time same place, monthly rides same last Sunday of the month, long rides , short rides, North, East, West, placing SRA cards on bikes talking with people you meet with Shadows and the numbers are always the same 1 to 4 riders. Myself and Saddo don't even ride Shadows anymore but are made more than welcome by the rest. Reasons are varied and plentiful as to why someone can't make the ride, so know I will continue to plan rides I want to do and if someone comes good if not I' just ride faster Maybe you guys could call a meet to discuss the issues that way it gives everyone time to think and prepare themselves and sort out a happy ending.

Hi Louie, Angel and WA SRA Members, All SRA States have the right to have the leader of their choice and to go through the process of change if that's what the majority want to see happen. I believe rights such as these help keep a club democratic, fresh and moving forward. Shane289 writes sensibly when he says there is no guarantee ride numbers will change with a new face at the helm but having said that if democratic process isn't seen to be done current members may move away from the SRA banner. If there are rumblings that a change of leadership would be beneficial I would ask that a meeting to discuss and vote on the leadership role be posted in the forum, Facebook and a letter to WA members from George by email notifying them of the same.
As WA covers such a large area I would suggest any Registered WA Member who can't make the meeting be allowed to send in to George their nomination for State Coordinator. Those who are happy to stand for the role I would suggest should make clear to George so the choices can be added to the email circulated to WA members and a choice made. I would like to see each candidate who is prepared to stand post a thread within the SRA WA Forum (only) expressing their views for the future of SRA WA and the reason/s they want to see a leadership change without dragging anyone through the mud in the process.
I would hope that a meeting could be set for sometime in October to resolve the matter and I ask that a date be announced before the end of September for George to prepare his letter of meeting notification.
Even if the rumblings are small I believe the meeting is now necessary to stem any spread of discontent which can become a real issue for clubs and organisations. I am pleased that members have SRA WA at heart and are looking to expand its membership base in the west. Please feel free to email or PM me or any of the Administration for advise or clarification.

Well that clears things up in my head about what this thread is about. Thanks Troggs for clarifying the issues discussed on Sunday.
Rapidly coming into the riding season we do have to clear this up pronto as Rusty suggested.

Sensible words Rusty, I really hope a clear solution will prevail for you WA members to ensure friendship continues amongst our members.. I myself have been in the biggest battle of my life over the last three months, and the SRA association has been one of the biggest influences that supported me.. The txt,s, e-mails, phone calls just to make sure I'm ok has been and still is overwhelming.

I have just read the "candidates" thread. Good call Jayne about the leadership nominations. Those that have spoken to me privately now is your time to put your case forward. put your case in a positive constructive manner without bagging the other candidates. if nobody else puts there candidacy forward I do not want to hear any of these gripes mentioned to me privately or otherwise again.

Folks , I think Rusty's idea of a meeting is the ultimate solution here ... we're descending into "he said..she said" because there is too much being said in private messages which are then being misquoted or misrepresented . If you have something to say , a meeting where everyone can openly voice their opinions will prevent anyone putting words in anyone elses' mouths . Anything and everything I have said I have said in public forum , not in private messages . I have to deal with way too much politics in my day to day job to want to have to cop more of it via texts and private messages when I come home . So you understand my position on the State Coordinator position entirely and I can't be misconstrued .. The first time I even considered it was when I received a fully unsolicited message from Jayne saying she was feeling like stepping down for a while and would I consider taking up the mantle . I'm sure Jayne will verify that my reply was "I'm chuffed to be asked , but I dont think I can put the time into it I feel it requires. I will consider it carefully and let you know " . On that basis I did say in conversation on Sunday that *if* Jayne stepped down and no one else stepped up that I thought would do a better job than I could , I would put my hand up. It was never my intention to "unseat: anyone , but to step up if and only if , it was required. If I was a backbiter , would I have been putting forward ideas as to how I thought we could promote and increase the membership of the group ( I dont use the word club ..) in front of the person I was intending to unseat? As I say , my purpose here is to ensure I'm not misquoted by anyone in the current atmosphere. Democracy should be an open forum , not private deals ... C'mon folks , lets keep it civil and sort this out for the benefit of all . Cheers Trog

unfortunately when public meetings occur, people tend to not speak their minds out of fear of judgement or WHY. I agree that it requires discussion publicly but i doubt much will actually be said. an anonymous vote is a good option, the candidates thread was also a good idea allowing people to get a feel of those members that want to step up to the plate. Its especially good for me because barely know anyone but would like to be able to contribute by vote or in some form. Id also like to add that yes I am a member of this organization but i also ride with other clubs. I do not feel I should be obliged to even have to mention that and i don't think it should be held against me or any other member here. I like to ride, I don't care what you ride, i don't care about who you associate with, if your a good person ill ride with you. Its simple for me, I ride because its peaceful (except peak-hour), it genuinely makes me feel good/better. Ill take a face full of bugs and sunburn over office space and gardening any day of the week. I have no interest in politics and its has nothing to do with my love of riding.
Id like to offer more to the WA group and will attend as often as I can. The people I have met thus far have been genuine and I wish whoever gets the coordinators position all the best, I look forward to riding with you and everyone else over here.

After re-reading Rusty's comments about a meet to discuss this current issue. Whether that be what we want from our leaders, whether that be retaining our existing leadership or electing a new person to the post. I suggest we have a get together on either Sunday the 6th or 13th of Oct. To get the highest possible attendance please respond to this post saying which day is best suited & we should then decide on central location. The day with the most people attending I think should be chosen.
louie
PS:- just remember we must at all times keep it civil, as these are our friends we are dealing with here, & when all is done and dusted this is not to be personal, as the last thing we want it to do is to damage friendships that we have all developed over the life of SRA-WA
