Hi Reiner. A friend of mine used to own a motor bike shop, race bikes and is a motor bike mechanic. He said you do not need to rejet (or change airfilter) when you put after market pipes on. However, if people insist on rejecting, the rejet kits are American made, for American petrol and conditions and we in Australia, usually put the wrong jets in. I think a kit has a few different jets in it and we usually put the recommended one in, but forget it is recommended for american conditions, we need to put the next higher jet in. Anyway I'm not very mechanically minded so I was a bit lost in the translation. When I first bought my bike (from the friend) I got VH pipes put on and did not change anything else. It ran great for 14 yrs and last year someone talked me into changing the jets and airfilter and its been running like shite ever since. The bottom line is, he said you don't need to rejet.

It ran great for 14 yrs and last year someone talked me into changing the jets and airfilter and its been running like shite ever since. The bottom line is, he said you don't need to rejet. On my 04 750, I had Jardine Pipes, K&N Air filter ad modified air box, unlike Georges mate I put a DunoJet kit in the carby ( New spring,Needle and clip as the factory unit is not adjustable & varies main jets as you dont change the idle jet.) it recommends 3 stages for 3 different mods. I did stage 3 and I know for a fact the bike went quicker, smoother, backfired less and increased fuel economy. Now as these are for American conditions imagine how much better it would be for Aussie conditions. Bottom line is get someone that knows what they are doing to do the job. Like I said I've done it and 100% know it works. but please yourself, in the end your better of buying a bigger bike. Like anything do it right the first time

Also the reason I put the kit into the carby was to stop the backfire ( popping ) in the exhaust. Did it work ? Only 99% of the time. But we do have a member who likes the backfire, only its not from his bike.

Hard part being no mechanics around here, all farm bikes/sports and not interested in helping. A Harley dealer in the closest town no spare parts.....Agh the joy of living in the sticks and not being a local even after 26 years

If your going to do it I would suggest you but the kit yourself and take it to a mechanic, as one member took his bike to one of Melbourne's biggest dealers to have the Dynojet kit supplied & fitted and later found out the changed the main jet and used a 5 cent washer to raise his needle, to say he wasn't very happy is an understatement. The instructions that come with the Dynojet kit are very good and if you have basic mechanical skills & tools & can remove & refit your Carby the job is pretty straight forward. I got mine from EBay USA.
On my new bike I had to fit a FI2000 It's like a little computer that connects to the bikes Fuel injections and allows you to Adjust the time your injectors stay open and allow more fuel in which helps eliminate the popping in my exhaust and makes is run smoother. As you see with George And Kinghavocs bikes you need to get it done right. Have a chat with the Harley dealers and see what he would charge if you supplied the kit. You may also like to look at K&N air filter they are washable so you keep reusing it.

Best to check the USA forums, When I fitted mine I followed the recommended settings from Cobra and it was running too rich, got on the forum and followed the most recommended setting from them and that fixed the problem. Makes a big difference in the running just make sure you get the right one for your model.
