First of all Corky get more bags! Second on my first trip in colder weather I had a lot of bags but wanted to take my big fluffy dressing gown .. solution: those vacuum bags! Took my dressing gown and my pillow made them both in one bag about the size of a folded jumper. Also roll your clothes instead if folding them, you can cram more in and they don't crease as much.

Would love the answer to that one cos I am starting to pack my panniers now. ps travel safely to Bright and return!

I dont camp .. therefore I can use the vacuum bag by just borrowing the vacuum cleaner from the motel when we are packing to leave In your case, and actually what I'm doing for the bright trip, give the fluffy dressing gown a miss and go for some good quality thermal wear. I have two singlets and two long sleeve undershirts that I swear by, they roll up to about the size of a toiletry bag so fit easily into my bags and they keep you warm as toast even underneath a thin cardigan or jumper. And lots of thick socks I guess I'm lucky too tho cause I really dont feel the cold that much, it doesn't take much to warm me up, warm upper and warm feet and I'm comfy.

I am a devotee of 100% merino thermals. Living without them would be difficult. Mine are very thin and add no bulk so wearing them under denim is no probs.
