I think these batteries are the same type I've been using in my fishing kayaks for years. I invested in a charger years ago called a CTek . It can do al sorts of batteries and also has a re-conditioning mode that you can use if you feel you could bring an old battery back to life. It's saved me throwing out a few anyway.

Hey Scotty, if you are riding regularly your bike battery will be like a car battery and you should get 3 to 4 years out of it, if the bike sits a lot then I would do as Kev said and get a smart charger like the Ctec you can set them up with a plug so you simply plug the bike in with no need to remove seat to get to battery. The smart chargers have a maintenance mode where you can leave them on constantly with no fear of cooking the battery. When I bought my bike the battery was claged as the bike had only done 300ks in 15 months. Azza

Azza Great thanks Azza,my bike has'nt sat for more than a day or two, ride everywhere now, unless its raining heaps,300ks in 15months,thats crazy, cant see how someone could have it parked for so long and not ride.

Yeh Scotty this rich as dude bought two vt400's one for him and one for his girl friend, she decided she didn't like so the sat in the garage next to the Maserati, BMW adventure bike, land rover, Toyota and other stuff. But I couldn't see it straight away as they had just got back from OS and were going to spend the weekend on one of the yachts to chill out. I came to the conclusion that he most likely wasn't selling cause he needed the dollars. Cheers Azza

My bike is an 05 model and I only changed it in 2012, so that is 6 years. They have a reputation for long life if properly charged up (as on a battery tender if not being regularly ridden) but mine gets a lot of use and i have never needed to use a battery tender. David
