G'day ppl, With mixed feelings that I'll let all know that I've inherited myself a Shadow. A 2007 Aero, white in colour. For those Qld members that may be aware, this is my partners Cathy's bike. (The one I lovingly refer to as The Minister of War!). On the Monday before Easter she had another accident on her bike. Practically standing still at a round-a-bout the rear tyre slide out from under her. She's not sure why. After 3 weeks she finally came home with another couple of metal plates inserted. Left leg just below the knee and the left shoulder. She has decided to stop riding as her bones are getting too brittle. This is her second accident in right on 12 months. The thing that has pushed my buttons is that last year she wrote off my bike but she only did superficial damage to her own. The worst damage was the left engine bar was pushed back to half way between the gear lever and the foot peg. I was going to remove it but the bar itself blocked access to one of the bolts so that was when I discovered that I could bend the bar back to where it belonged with the use of a ratchet strap. Put strap around bottom of engine bar and the tow bar of the car and got someone to hold the bikes front brake while I winched it back into place. Apart from a dent in the left mirror head, all there is to see is scratches. Seriously, I'm glad she's recovering, a bike can be replaced, ppl can't. All I need now is to find time to ride it still. Brian AKA Highwayrunner

I may be speaking out of turn here but would she consider a trike as an option.

I too am seriously considering being full time pillion behind hubby. And giving it some long thinking I'm not sure I could cope with the pillion thing. I've only got about 20000 km in experience myself so I don't think I'm ready to cope with that responsibility. The bike thing (learning to ride) was Cathy's idea. I'm disappointed she's going to give it away but she seems to have made up her mind. If here's not much enjoyment in it then there's not much point in doing it. She says the worry it causes her kids is effecting her. When I do finally get to throw my leg over, it does clear the mind 'cause you have to give your ride all your attention. I may be speaking out of turn here but would she consider a trike as an option. I'm trying to talk her into a Can-Am Spyder, although I'll let things settle first. She needs to get over her injuries and recoup first. Physiotherapist is saying a good 6 months for her shoulder to recover. I hate seeing her suffer, she's normally very independent. The draw back is that the Spyders are still more than we can afford at the moment. Brian.

Really sorry to hear about the injuries and hope that a full recovery is soon. I think it is really sensible to not pillion if you are not confident but it is also really important that a pillion knows what they are doing and are comfortable being a pillion. The Can Am Spyder is a great idea and I've seen them as low as $8K, but I also understand that it takes a while to learn to ride them. I hope to get one when the old legs tell me it's time. Cheers ... Mark
