I hope this is OK for thread topic, some forums like to stay with related topics I only work part time as I on a disability pension because I've had 2 heart attacks, 1st when I was 30 2nd I was 37, that was a big one my heart stopped for 4 minutes, (but that's another story) i'm still here 22 years later to tell the tale I do a school run morning and night and when the boss gets busy I do some charter works as well, SA members will probably know the company, this is what I drive 12m long, 6.9lt V8 twin turbo diesel I have to jump through hoops every year to keep my license and accreditation, but it helps me top up the pension I am also my wifes carer, she had a back injury back in 2000 and it has left her with chronic pain, some day she just can't get out of bed, most days are OK, she can get out of bed for about 4 to 5 hours) and she also has some good days Every now and then we need to recharge so I take time off (I have a great boss, who is very understanding and holds my job for me, I've now been with the company 5 years but only worked 4) and we hook up the van and nick off, here's a link to our last big trip (19 weeks) www.thewesternadventure.blogspot.com.au/it's a long read and I will forgive you if you don't read it, but at least have a look at the pictures, we live in a beautiful country We've been to the west twice, Tassie and also followed the murray to Albury down to Melbourne and back via Bendigo In a nutshell, that's us Frank

Well done Frank for soldiering on. Muttley had 2 heart attacks at 43 (now 61)but as he was a martial arts instructor and fit Drs thought it was just muscle probs he was having..so once they found it was his heart the damage to it couldnt be undone. So quadruple bypass was done but heart muscle is dead in a big area. Carotid surgery another time then 2 leg femoral artery bypasses followed thanks to bad family genes they said.
Then i have broken tail in bits and they are bent back pressing into nerves and injuries from car accident in spine and neck. Pain is horrendous so I completely hear you when you mention your dear wife. I also have bronchiectasis which is related to cystic fibrosis..We can look well on the outside but suffer awfully inside. Riding helps you forget if only for a while and like music it keeps us young. Enjoy your life best way you can and find something to smile about every day.........it really helps. So glad you have a great understanding boss...ride safe .....
PS.....And what many forget, this could be any of us any time at any age that is why its important to live each day to the full.....lol gee feel like a psychologist haha

When I'm not home which is 3 weeks a month at the moment as I'm a fifo worker I'm working as a rigger up at the Wallumbilla gas hub for downers constructing a gas compression station for A.P.A. After a 12hr day I get back to my humpy kick the boots off have a few 101 turkeys keyboard surf on my forums and work out where I'm gunna ride myself or with the war department on my week at home. The reason for working away other than the ridiculous money/tax, is to pay off my dream home up in the dandenongs and put my young bloke through school. I've already put it to the missus about an sra bbq after a decent ride soon. Working away is good because there is no better feeling than coming home whether it be after a 3wk,12hr day roster (no days off) or a decent ride on the bike coming home is awesome.

I'm a "Freight Relocation Engineer". The big long thing is what I get to drive. Leave Brisbane as a double, hook on the "B" or last trailer in Toowoomba then onwards to Darwin. Generally a round trip takes 8 days which includes going to "barracks" for a 24 hr break in Darwin as well. The fringe benefits are I sometimes to get to drive things like in the other pictures. BTW .... you get to drive some sh*ters too! Brian

I was a Chef for 32 years, got out cos I didn't spend enough time with the kids. I decided I wouldn't make the same mistake with the Grandkids. I had a granny flat built next to the house and my daughter and 3 gran kids live there, my son and one of my daughters are still living at home ( most of the time) my eldest and 3 more gran kids have just bought a property just 10 minutes away. I now work at the Rocklea Markets, forklift driving/order picking, no pressure job (although my boss can be an assole at times), but im home usually by 10am, have a nap then I get up and either do some airbrushing or stuff around the house, i get the afternoons with the family, doing stuff ,We have a family get together at least once a week.I get Friday night Saturday off so I usually go riding or painting, or cooking for the family, I should have made the switch years ago.

Great idea for a thread topic Frank I've worked my way through a bit of your blog and loved it, a lot of reading but it's great reading, and love the pics!! Ok so I dont really do much, I'm a nurse who has worked at the blood bank for the last 5 years and love it. You meet the nicest people. I started nursing in a nursing home in Newcastle which was hard but very rewarding work if a bit sad at times. When I moved to Dubbo I worked at the base hospital in the genreal ward for 12 months before going part time and working in a surgery as well. Loved the surgery work, hated the hospital work (it's just so depressing at times). Before nursing I have done a varitey of things from bar attendant to painter and decorator. In my spare time during that period I went to the beach and the pub. Ahh to be young and able to cope with the hang overs on the bright sand .. meh dont miss that at all Now in my spare time I'm a bit of a nerd, I'm usually glued to my computer if I'm not pottering around with the bike or the house. Cray and I love to go out for coffee or lunch or dinner .. anything involving food really. And once in a while we get to go for a ride

I'm a Mum of two kids called Search (Girl 14) & Destroy (Boy 11). Married but separated (Its complicated lol). Wanted to be a mechanic but got talked out of it by my Dad. I really enjoy working on cars and have taken part in a few mechanical challenges. Spent years in Admin work and ran a courier company in the freight forwarding industry, working with Customs and Quarantine. Always interesting going through other peoples stuff!. Then I decided that Uni would be fun. which it was I guess! Social Science - Counselling quals. Worked at a contact centre for separated parents. Then with child safety and now with Uniting Care as a family support worker. We get our referrals from child safety, so its still in the emotionally exhausting category. I enjoy it. Makes me appreciate my own family. My therapy is Cruisey. I really enjoy my 'me' time on the open roads. She keeps me from going psycho Bwhahahaha!! Cheers y'all. Interesting mix of cool cats on here by the sounds of it. You all sound like good company See you on another ride soon

I was a Chef for 32 years, got out cos I didn't spend enough time with the kids. I'm hearing you .... if I had a family I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing either. Not sure how I'd clothe, house and feed them .... but that's just another could have been!!
