GHOST ride in SA, Sunday 21st Sep

This is the email I got from Spook

G’day again,

The gurus have come down from the mountain, consulted and decided that Sunday Sept 21st should

be the date for the next peaceful motorcycling sojourn into the countryside.

Those same gurus reckoned that Swan Reach is a suitable destination for lunch with our ride up

typically being broken by a break for caffeine (what else) and comfort at Walker Flat. The Swan Reach

Pub have a booking in place for us with numbers to be confirmed on the morning. If it be your

intention to partake of lunch without actually leaving Strathalbyn with us please let me know before

the day by return on this email address so that I am able to keep the Pub management informed..

For those riders who haven’t been with us before, our rides leave the Strathalbyn Railway Station Car

Park at 9.30 (ish). What this means in practical terms is that if you are there at 9.30 you won’t be left

behind if we do ACTUALLY leave on time. I think it’s happened a couple of times in the past, leaving

on time that is!

There is a good breakfast/sticky bun and coffee shop adjacent where quite a few of us partake of a preride

caffeine hit or more. This gives one a chance to fit in a few more true stories for the day. 

Ride distance to Swan Reach is 131kms from Strath via Callington, Monarto, Pallamanna, Mannum and

Walker Flat. The return distance may vary depending on the route selected by democratic process by

those present.

We look forward to your company on the day whether you are an old stager or a first timer with

GHOST Riders. We’re all out there for the same reason.

Anyone here wishing to go Please let me know if you are coming, either via PM or on this thread, it would be great to meet a few shadow riders

OK, you slackers, when I first joined there were people trying to organise rides here in SA and most fell through
So what if this is not an "official" SRA ride, it's a ride all the same

Hey Frank how come you put it here mate and not in the State section . Not worried just wondering mate . All good anyhow . Hope they come for you ,sounds great

I've been on a couple of Ghost riders rides and can vouch that they are a great welcoming bunch of fellow riders and strongly recommend anyone to ride with them and the Walker Flat / Swan Reach ride is one of my favourites. I'd dearly like to go on this one but the greatest football club (been around since 1870) that ever put a team on an oval is in the SANFL Grand Final going for their 36th flag. In addition, the greatest club's other team is in the ALF Preliminary playing Hawthorn. I'm hosting an AFL GF BBQ the next week for a bunch of reprobates and need to clean the house and yard so I'm out unfortunately.

Sorry, I always look at the "view new posts" and usually post in general, that way I recon someone will read it, not too many SA members look in by the looks of things

Don't worry Frank, all is not lost, "I have a cunning plan m'Lord" and if the planets align and the Gods are smiling I'll join the ride around Murray Bridge with a mate & his Sportster. I'll know for sure tomorrow night.

11-22 degrees here today, some of the places we are going to are starting out at -1 but they are all going for low to mid 20s
A fantastic day to be alive, good weather, wind in your hair (for some) open road in front of you, something big and throbbing between your legs, and the company of good friends, what more could you want.

OK, for those of you who missed it, including Langers who had some hickups with the bike it was a fan-BLOODY-tastic day, as promissed by the weatherman the temperature was at the 24 mark
there were about 20 riders enough to fill half a ferry + 2 more riders when we crossed at Walker flat


there were 4 Shadows in the group and I handed out some cards so we may get some new members

We went to the Swan Reach hotel for lunch with a round trip of 380km and this was the view at lunch

Well done Frank, it would have been just fantastic riding though God's country with the fantastic weather. It's been a bugger of a weekend for me. Last night my AFL team lost by 3 points, this afternoon my SANFL team lost be 4 points and yesterday evening, prepping the bike for the ride, I noticed for the 2nd time that coolant was all over the back of the radiator. Erring on the side of caution I pulled out of the ride and worked on the bike. Turns out that the rubber pipe from the radiator cap to the radiator was perishing inside and coolant was creeping out the reinforcing fibre embedded in the pipe, Pretty easy fix with a Landcruiser pipe of similar dimensions and bend - but a bloody pest to miss the ride.

Lucky call there Langers. Could of been nasty to Bugger up on a ride. .
