Hi to all the SA members. Looking forward to meeting some of you, have a beer, go on a ride, whatever? Our only plan at the moment is make Adelaide by nightfall tomorrow and go to Kangaroo Island the next morning. If anyone wants to meet up let us know. We'll be up late tonight as usual. Had a great time in Victoria and Taz and met some fine Shadow people.

Hi Chris You are both welcome to a bed at our place tomorrow (and over the next week or so, excepting Friday & Saturday because the beds have been promised to my sisters for a family wedding and Dad's 90th). So let me know and we'll see what pans out. A word of warning regarding KI - it has ironstone soils and some of the dirt roads can be treacherous - stick to the blacktop. My number is 0418 817 851 Cheers Mark

Can't be as generous as Langers as we only have a small unit and no place for 2 extras (unless you want to share an uncomfortable sofa bed I keep for the mother in law) and as it would go, I have a charter on Thursday, I would have loved to escort you to the KI ferry, you'll be coming past our place, how long are you on KI as it would be great to have you call in on the way out (about a 1km detour) and maybe share a meal with us. Sunday is out for us though with family commitments
Also about KI be careful of the (wallabies, not kangaroos) they are stoopid and don't know that vehicles are a hazard as you will see by the number of dead ones on the side of the road
My number is zero 414 zero 88 412

Wow, you guys don't waste any time. Thanks for offering your hospitality. Taking note of your warnings about KI. Too late now so will call you tomorrow before we leave so we can get an idea of your exact locale. Frank, we may not be able to stay with you but of course we would like to drop in and meet a fellow Shadow Rider. A possible meal sounds pretty good too. Don't think a one km detour would put us off. LOL Mark, we'd love to take you up on that very generous offer thanks. In case I can't get through or you are busy you can call me at your convenience at zero 4 zero 3 271214. Chris

Yesterday Langers looked after our 2 guests (he's been busy at work today so he'll post his bit soon I recon) and today was my turn, as after a quick phone call to my boss last night, I was able to arrange to get the afternoon off (I do a school run am and pm) I had wanted to show them around my bit of SA (The Fleurieu peninsula) but they had to make a move north so changed the plans and showed them some of the roads we have to cruise on headed up to Crafers, Piccadilly, Ashton, Lobethal, Cuddlee creek, and up to Williamstown, before having a late lunch in Gawler, before saying our goodbyes and heading in different directions if you google some of those towns (especially Ashton to Lobethal) you'll see that we twisted and turned up hill and down dale, the weather was a purrrfect 25 degrees and we also did a couple of the touristy things we stopped at the biggest rocking horse in the world thetoyfactory.com.au/ and the whispering wall www.southaustralia.com/info.aspx?id=9001624Wolf thought he might try a new steed and not to be outdone Chris joined him we were able to get a shot of the 3 of us (not on the rocking horse though) We left Langer's place at 10.20 and parted company at 3pm having covered 150km, I was honoured to be able to show the guys a bit of SA, they are great company They were hoping to get to Pt Pirie tonight but still had to stop at Laura in the midnorth of SA (at Langer's suggestion), home of the best ice cream in the world, not that we're bias or anything

We're in Pt Pirie for the night. Spent 2 nights at Julie and Mark's (Langers) place. What great hosts, even the dog was friendly enough to sleep on my bed at night. The first night they gave us dinner and took us for a drive up to Mt Fairy I think for a great view of the city. What a town can look like without a layer of smog is surprising. Next day Mark took us up to Cleland animal park where we got to see a lot of animals in natural-like settings rather than cages. Saw the elusive taz devil running around in circles, got to hand-feed potapos? and kangaroos. Got to touch a koala and they are as soft as they look. Then went down through Adelaide. Like that town a lot, not so crowded as Melbourne and a lot less traffic. So many great house designs. Wolf was happy finding a postcard store. Took the backroads home. A fantastic day and weather cooperated fairly well. Today Frank met us at Julie and Mark's place and we took some beautiful back roads full of red and yellow trees doing their autumn thing. Sounds weird to say autumn in April since we're just going into summer soon back home. Frank left us at Gawler and we took the back way to Pt Pirie joining up with the freeway just before town. The weather was perfect all day, really the best so far although it got nippy pretty fast as soon as the sun started setting. We got into town just before sunset. Not gonna do that again. Looking into the sun and hoping a kangaroo with my name on him wasn't lurking in the bushes. Wolf is sleeping off his latest exploit - ate a kangaroo steak. I tried it but we both agreed that the wallaby was tastier. On to Glendambo tomorrow. We're going to cut the speed down from 110 and do maybe 85-90 and just relax. Maybe we'll see more animals and have a better survival chance if one gets us. So far SA has been terrific, thanks Julie, Mark and Frank

Finally some daylight. Easter, hosting a couple of great gentlemen, hosting a couple of sisters (from Tassie), family wedding, father's 90th birthday - at last I have some time to report in re the visit of our American friends. I caught up with Chris and Wolf at Crafers, they pulled off the freeway up the exit ramp, just where I'd parked myself to think about where would be the best place to catch them and there we met. We headed down Upper Sturt Rd (nice and windy with some good views but the nanny state had dropped the speed limit from 80 to 60 some 8 or 9 years ago) to my place where we got acquainted, had some Coopers Sparkling Ale (sorry folks, they've now had the best, I guess they are going to have to suffer the rest) and a lamb roast. Many hours later was bed then off to Cleland Wildlife reserve after some domestic duties (Chris was washer woman that day). The Kangaroos, emus, koalas, Tassie devils and FB lizards (they weren't goannas but I can't remember what they were) all took a liking to our two travelers and did the right thing for the cameras. After Cleland we rode to Greenhill Rd and went down it to Haighs chocolate factory (Chris is a bit partial to decent quality chocolate (did I mention that SA makes the best chocolate in Australia?)). It was then off to Harley Heaven to check for a for a T shirt, the Bay for some postcards and back home for more talking. I have to say, it would be hard to find a nicer couple of visitors from the States and it was an absolute pleasure and honour to have them stay, and if anyone has the opportunity to offer a bed I would highly recommend it. I believe that they made Coober Pedy yesterday so I guessing that they would be heading to Kulgera today or tomorrow and then the Rock. Safe travelling guys and look forward to more episodes of your great Aussie adventure. Cheers ... Mark
