Help please. My 2011 VT400C is cutting out when the day temp seems to increase. I ride to work about 50 kms, in the morning the bike goes like a dream. On the way home on warm days I don't get to far and the motor starts to cut out. It will idle good but as soon as I throttle on it cuts out. I know the computer monitors the temp and should limit power but this is happening well before the motor is overheating.Honda don't seem to be much help. Has anyone had similar experience or has any idea why or how I can fix this.

Interesting. I imagine you have made sure the fuel is ok . How long since the air filter has been serviced .Also the plugs may ne breaking down but for that year sould be fine. Had a member on a 750 that had a smlar problem .Rode to a meet and was ok but later in the ride it kept breaing down .He managed to get home and then checked the bike . Turned out the battery leeds were loose at the terminals. Not saying thats it but pay to look . Sure othets will chime in and put forward a suggetion.

Hi mattblack also check your coolant level and when was the last time it was changed just a thought. also check your ignition coil when going bad and when it heats up it creates a no spark condition.
cheers,
spinal.

Thanks guys, the bike has 52,000k on so far. Ride to work every day. The air filter was supposed to be changed last service and I have checked the coolant level but don't know if it needs changing. The rest I will have to check. First seemed to happen when I was stuck in very heavy traffic, since then happens when the days are a bit warm. "Bit" annoying to say the least. I'll post the results when I find the fix. Cheers

Hi mattblack, If nothing has improved it so far you could try running a different computer in it. Printed circuit boards, especially if they've got damp in the past, can give intermittent faulty signals, I have no idea where you'd find one to trial though. The only time my bike has stopped it was a battery fault.

Finally found out what the cause was - the fuel pump. Apparently this is a known problem with the 400 and the 750 Shadows. They get hot because of their position in the frame and loose performance, don't stop just don't pump as much. Bike idles but does not rev or accelerate. Something to remember.
