Happy mechanicing . Idf you get some pics as you go would be great to make a tutorial. Happy mechanicing day 1 Ray, the oil sump bolt has so little clearance that my socket set wouldn't fit. I could force it off using a open ended spanner and a bit of encouragement from Mr Hammer, but from previous experience all that does is round the bolt. Problem solved with a new socket set (Stanley do a "Thru Drive system" where the socket goes thru the ratchet). The oils presently draining out and the job can now continue. Local K & D had it priced at $87, Supercheap had it online for $50 (nearest shop with stock is Launceston), Bunnings price matched Supercheap and took an extra 10% off, so only paid $45. My wife will confirm I don't need much of an excuse to buy tools.

Going well. Instead of hitting said spanner i often put a larger ring spanner over the end of the one your using to undo the nut . Gives ya more purchase .

Just finishing up tonight to head out. Alarm bells starting to ring though. I've taken the exhaust off and all the 4 dome nuts and the 2 bolts going through the exhaust bracket bushes were loose. Certainly suggests someone's had a look inside the side cover. It'll be tomorrow morning before I take the side off, hopefully doesn't make me pissed before my afternoon shift. I've been taking notes and photo's as I go, so there may be a guide of how to check/change the clutch plates at some point.

Finally had the time and equipment to take apart and check the cutch springs, plates and discs. Clutch springs were the only item that weren't within Honda's specs. Replaced the springs and put everything back together and torqued. Unfortunately the clutch still won't disengage, so looks like I'll have to put it into a bike shop (going to have to do a number of overtime shifts first though). I did manage to make a how to guide, but I'll wait until a mechanics looked at the bike before I post it.

Finally got around to getting the bike checked by Motorworks in Hobart. It appears I put one of the clutch plates in wrong, causing it to stick and warp when the clutch was pulled in. One clutch plate, labour and a change of oil was only $200. Clutch much smoother than when I bought the bike and the engine is much more responsive after the timing mod. A nice 27 degree day in Hobart for the ride home.

Hi all,
looking for some advice.
The VT750 is the first cruiser I've had, previously had sports tourers. Clutch cable snapped with only 40k on the odometer. From what I can see the bike wasn't particularly well serviced by the previous owner. Replaced the cable with an OEM replacement. I find that I can either get the cable to be slack or tight, there doesn't seem to any room to adjust. I've followed the cable routing on the service manual, so would it be unusual for a clutch to need replacing at 40k or is there a secret to adjusting the cable.
