G'day all, I desperately need some help. Hubby recently brought me a beautiful little VT400. Took it out for the first time, sat in the sun for a bit then started it up and the fuel tank sucked in on itself!!! Not a good feeling! Anyway I think the breather might be blocked but can't really find any info on where it is or how to clean out what must be a blockage in there. Really need some help/advice Cheers

Yup, fuel cap not venting. You can try to carefully pop it back out with an air hose or fill with water & put them in the freezer. Be careful tho as both methods can blow out the seams & ruin the tank. Worst case is that you will buy a new one probably anyway.

The tank is usually vented in two ways. Firstly an overflow or breather pipe which is normally located at the back of the tank near the rider on the right side (fuel tap is on the left). The other way is through the fuel cap. There are notches cut into the cap which allow venting. Check the fuel cap as well as the pipe.

There have been problems with after market caps that have poor venting, get a new fuel cap

Ok I didn't actually think that the fuel cap had a vent in it? I'm pretty sure it's the original one as the original key fits into it? it doesn't look like there are any vents in the cap, is there supposed to be one in there as well?

Rinse the cap thourghly and air blast it Soon find where the vents are near the notches . Make sure the hose at rear of tank is not bloked.A wasp nest or something maye have got in there .Maybe gently pry a bit of wire up there .
