I washed the bike today (as I do every week) & noticed that afterwards I had no headlight on??? By the time I got home it was on again, & then went off??? I checked the fuse (it was OK) checked the globe (It was new, & OK) so I have no idea what the problem is. Tail lights & blinkers are good, but no headlight??? Any ideas anyone???

On the Aero forum in the USA a few owners have had this problem caused by the starter switch believe it or not!
reason is the power to the headlight switch goes through the starter switch so as to turn the headlight off when you hit the starter motor. Sometimes if you run extra lights it can burn these starter switch contacts as they don't have a heavy current rating, and have headlight problems.
Sometimes the switch can be dismantled and cleaned, but often the tension spring is heat weakened and the switch has to be replaced

I had an intermittent fault with mine after many attempts to fix it turned out to be the wire connectors inside the headlight bucket, Use a electrical tester and trace the power from your battery to the globe via fusebox, high / low switch, into the bucket I just cut the bad connector off and replaced them with new ones and been good since. Hope this helps

Not sure I'm up to that Shane as I do have a voltage tester, but it's in storage (not sure exactly where) while we house-sit for a friend till Oct. But would you believe (rodaco) that I pulled my starter swich apart & cleaned it only yesterday as it gets a bit ornery at times & won't start. So THAT shouldn't be the problem. Thanks for your help

Interesting, did the headlight problem happen before or after pulling the switch apart? and just because you cleaned it, are you certain it is working ok? you really need a voltmeter to check if the contacts are getting power through them to be sure. Good luck!

rodaco it appears you might be right. The light wasn't working again this morning but when I touched the starter button it came back mon. I suspect it's wear & tear, looks like I might have to get a new micro switch

Well at least you know now what is the problem I know some other riders have rebuilt the switch using stronger springs to increase pressure on the contacts for the headlight circuit. I believe they used a spring from a Bic biro or some such thing!! Cheers

rodaco. well, tried strengthening the spring, nope, that didn't work & now the microswitch didn't want to stay together (top to base). So I clamped it together with some zip ties & glued it.....now it works & the light stays on. But I think I'll needto order a new switch. Honda tells me that the microswitch is not available on its own, I have to buy all the housing & the kill switch. I think I'll talk to Simon.

Thanks for that Rusty but can't see one like I have, or that may fit in the Honda housing
