ill be attending a dawn service , out of respect for my dad and his brother who served in ww2, both returned. as my dad told me , we went away as boys, we returned not as men , but young boys who had lost their souls. ill be firing up my bike sometime on anzac day, and going for a ride, so i can let those diggers who gave their lives know, that we recognise the freedom they fought for.

I'm up for a dawn service ANZAC ride Louie ... it'd be unAustralian not to be as far as I'm concerned. Let me know which one you and Ross decide on and I'll hook up with you both somewhere beforehand . Cheers Trog

after reading Rays post, I spoke to Ross ( as I thought u had a good idea Ray ) and we are looking at doing the Dawn Service at Kings Park, then breaky at Fast Eddies, then joining up with the VMC at the Narragin Inn for the run to there club house, but after checking there web site I am not sure if they are doing a run this year. Looks like they are just doing a club meet with bands, beer, two up etc...will have to look into it...
*for happy ----> I have a similar military history in my family...Dad was a Vietnam Vet, My Uncle Jerry did 2 tours of Vietnam & one of Korea, Uncle Fred was in the evac of Dunkirk in WWII, Uncle Ray was in the occupation of Japan after WWII, Uncle Bill was in the Kakoda Trail in WWII, My grand Dad was in the western battle fields of France WWII ( he was a pom ) my Great Grand Dad survived Galipali and went onto the western trenches of France & my Great,Great Uncle Bill was in the Boar War & I served in 16 Battalion B company RWAR ( fortunately no active service for myself - I saw what that did to my Dad & uncle Jerry first hand )
louie.
There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of what my Dad, Uncle Jerry & previous generations in my family sacrificed so I and all Australians could have this freedom we so take for granted... So ANZAC DAY is always very important to me... I remember when I was in 16 Battalion one year I had the privilege of marching down St Georges Tce on ANZAC DAY and serving/waiting on the real heroes of this nation ... something very special to me

Louie, Wow that's quite a military history for your family. I never met my grandfather on my fathers side he was in the Polish Cavalry and was K.I.A in the invasion of Poland (19% of Poles died in WW2). Respect to all fallen soldiers. PS Korea is called the "Forgotton War" it was a real full scale high casualty war. Which is still simmering as captured well in the West's Saturday cartoon. Best Greyshadow

OK now after speaking to Simon. He confirmed the that the VMC doesn't do a run on ANZAC DAY & that they just open the doors to the public and veterans alike for a day of festivities and remembrance. So this is how I plan to do my ANZAC DAY ride. ( Joys of posting up a thought process, it always looks messy ;D ).
0430 Me & Ross leave my house.
0450 We arrive and meet up with troggy ( and any else who wishes to ride ) at the Meltham train Station. cnr of grand prom and railway pde Bayswater ( railway pde side car park )
0455 leave said station
0510 arrive Bellevue tce Kings Park ( good parking place for bikes )
attend Dawn Service
After dawn service. Head off to "Peters by the sea" in Scabs for a breaky ( if this is closed we have a Dome restaurant as back up, where we ate last year )
post breaky ride down the coast to nth freo ( or freo itself ). Then back out along the river thru' mosy pk, dalkieth, claremont, nedlands, city then make our way up to the VMC club house in nollamara.
Festivities include live band, bar and food and that most Australian of games .... two-up
louie.
PS:- Angel ---> 25 April ( Thursday, public Holiday )
- Greyshadow ---> WWI, Australia had the same tragedy. Highest losses of any army during that war. If I remember my history correctly. We had a population of about 4 million. Had 1 million enlisted in the armed forces ( not sure how many were in Europe ) ALL VOLUNTEERS. Fought with the 303 rifle with a real small clip of about 6 rounds or something. Against properly equipped armies with automatic weapons and better. Whilst being under British command and treated like cannon fodder by said command.
LEST WE FORGET

Louie , I'm in ..I'll see you at Meltham bright (hahaha) and early (not so haha). In WWI Australia suffered the highest casualty rate per capita of any country involved ....so yeah , your memory isn't wrong there . ANZAC Day and the dawn service is extremely personal .My family , as you know from our discussions very long time WA residents , have served this country in every conflict Australian troops have served in up until the current Afghan war and in every branch of the service from the Merchant Navy to the SAS . LEST WE FORGET.

Well it was good bumping into Louie, Trogs and Ross at the end of the dawn service. A good hearty breakfast followed down at Scarborough Beach - food was good but service was crap! Unfortunately I was in the car today as I had precious cargo with me - "lil' roughette", aka my 10yo Princess Awesome.

ANZAC DAY 2013 Ross, Troggy, Roughy & I saw in the dawn service at Kings Park. Ross Troggy & myself then proceeded on to a tribute ride after breakfast. This is the video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6vk3jl3iMg&feature=youtu.beThe pictures overlaid into this video are of my Dad, Uncle Jerry, Aunty Pam, Uncle Roy, my Grandad, & my great uncle Bill. All heroes in my eyes. All served our country. The last 2 images are of myself in 16 Battalion "B" company # 1 section. RWAR louie. LEST WE FORGET
