Reminder of our ride to Walhalla on this Sunday April 28th. weather looks OK, just a couple of showers forecast, which means we will take a little more care. meeting point is the Caltex Service Centre cnr of Princes Highway and Sand Rd Longwarry North. Don't confuse this with the Caltex at the Bunyip turnoff which is about 3 kms before our meeting point. meeting time is 10:00 a.m. with departure at 10:30. see you on Sunday ride safe

The ride to Walhalla was great, lots of bends and straight sections. Magnificent scenery through the Gippsland Hills. Filling lunch and the Wally Pub followed by a relaxing stroll through the historical township, one of Victoria's forgotten goldfields. Great to see Rusty and his wife come up from Yarram, thanks guys. In fact thanks also to Shane289, George, and Saddo for making the effort to come over to the eastern side of the state.
ride safe

John (Tonimbuk) Saddo (Darrell) Shane (289) and I met at the Caltex Servo on the Princess Highway, Longworry, as did about 20 Harley riders and a bus full of elderly citizens. The coffee queue was bloody long!! Soon we were on our bikes heading for Walhalla. We traveled through mixed country roads, passing through the many dairy farms and onto twisty mountain roads surrounded by giant mountain ashes. The smells of the fragrant gums and other trees, hay, cows and the many other live stock mixed with the smoke from burning ovens and fireplaces filled the country air. We passed through towns with names of Buln Buln, Willow Grove, Tanjil and Erica before stopping at Rawson where we met up The President, Rusty and his wife Lorraine. URL=http://s160.photobucket.com/user/skylines3000/media/004-3_zpsd28d042f.jpg.html] After greetings and a quick break we were on our bikes again. We rode the 11 kilometres of country lane which was called a road. Sharp hairpin bends and tight twisting corners while at the same time dodging pot holes, bark and other debris on the road. We stopped for lunch at the Walhalla Hotel and later strolled around the old historical mining town. Walhalla was at its picturesque best in all its autumn glory. It was soon time to go. We farewelled Rusty and Lorraine, who headed off back home to Yarram and at Willow Grove Saddo and John went their way and Shane and I went ours. We rode up and down mountains, some nice sweeping bends and some that were the more challenging tight twisty ones. We rode through small country hamlets that I had never heard off before finally coming into Yarra Junction. We then followed the Highway that took us home. A great day out enjoyed by all.

Just a couple more photos. By the way the reason Rusty was shivering is that he had his shirt unbuttoned showing his manly chest ;D URL=http://s160.photobucket.com/user/skylines3000/media/015-1_zpsd4a8f097.jpg.html]

Ta for sharing the pics Saddo .. I didn't notice the red phone box in the first lot of pics .. it just sets off the whole 'stepping back in time' feel. I'd certainly like to visit some time soon .. sheesh so many places to go .. so little time!!
