Everey time the subject comes up I look with envy because the $200+ price tag is just not possible for me.
I look and hope that someone will sell some cheap and I would jump at the chance but to no avail
The other day I was trolling gumtree and someone was selling a pair of SCA charcoal lamb's wool car seat covers for $40 each, brand new and I thought stuff it we'll have a go at making our own.
Rang him and yes they are brand new, still sealed, he bought them a couple of months ago and only tried to fit them the week before and they didn't fit, without the receipt he could not get his money back and yes I can buy just one and I managed to talked him down to $30 (they are $49.95 at Super Cheaps)
As it turns out it's for a car with a separate head rest and that piece fits Brenda's back rest perfectly, the seat and back part is lamb's wool and the backside and sides is faux fur
I cut the cover up at the seams and removed the elastic
I was left with the waste backing and the offcuts
the seat and back part
and the faux fur
I cut the seat up for the rear seat and
_
The faux fur for the riders back rest
the back (with a small amount of the faux fur on the sides) for the front seat
all up it took me about 2 hours, I then handed over to Brenda to put it all together with the sewing machine she re-used the elastic to make them a slip on so that they can be easily removed in wet weather
I'm now going to keep you in suspenders
That's all you get tonight
Brenda was at the sewing machine for about an hour and a half and got the back rest and rear seat finished and was about 1/2 way through the riders seat before her back gave in, she'll finish tomorrow and I'll post photos of the finished items then
What I will do though, is wet your appetite and say the what is finished looks better than a bought one
