Well the other day when we got a touch of cool weather start to creep in I decided to revert back to my leather jacket for a bit of warmth. What an uncomfortable ride the wind buffeting was terrible, and it was no warmer than my summer jacket. I found that the wind was coming up of my chest and filling my helmet causing it to lift and shake my head and the jacket would fill with cold air like a big wind sock but mind you I still had on my summer gloves so no gauntlets. Next ride I went back to my summer jacket with the liner in place and there was a marked difference next to no buffering and because it has nice tight fitting cuffs and collar kept the cool air out. So if you are thinking you need a wind screen take a look at your jacket first it could be the reason you are getting hammered
P.S. I have a leather Jacket for sale. Azza

When I dropped the Shadow and went for a slide (cushioning the Shadow from any damage, as any good Shadow rider would) I was very pleased with the leathers I was wearing. The only damage was bruising, ego and some minor scrapes to the leather. Has anyone out there done the slide on bitumen wearing textiles and how did they go (the textiles and the person)? Any long ride will find me in leather I was so impressed with the protection and lack of damage to the leather. Cheers ... Mark Azza - love the Boulie, just struggling to convince she who must be obeyed of the need to upgrade

No, it'll have to be a decidedly cunning and underhand plan, involving emotional blackmail and having no basis in logic - unfortunately being a male I won't be very good at it. Cheers ... Mark

Fell off the bike while stationery and the elbow guard inside my textile jacket could have contributed to smashing and dislocating my elbow. A friend came off a bend on a new CB400 doing 100 and her jacket was a saver injury wise but one use only. Shredded all over. Shoulders, elbows and back. She didn't break though. Think the leather is better for sliding. I need to find a way to shorten the sleeves on my leather jacket, so the gloves can go over the top. As they should. Wind goes straight up the sleeves. I assumed leather would be warmer, I'm with you there Azza - the leather is "cool". But now we truly know why. Only tends to be warm when sitting in the sun! It does make a difference wearing a long sleeve sports type jumper under it.

Hi LooseWheel I'd be buying gloves with decent gauntlets to stop the wind getting up the jacket sleeves. Down here in not so sunny SA in winter I wear a thermal T shirt under the heavy duty shirt, then a heavy duty cotton windcheater over the shirt then the leather jacket - keeps me warm most of the time. If I'm still cold I'll also throw on a micro-fibre jumper. Under the leather pants - heavy duty thermals I wear in the snow. When all that fails, book into the next pub and warm up with a couple of Capt'n Morgans finishing with a little Muscat (love the liquid raisins) before retiring for the night. Cheers ... Mark
Also & very important - I wear a cut down neoprene face mask (designed for the snow) under the full face and it keeps the neck and lower face toasty warm

Jeez Langers, sounds like a polar expedition in the making. I just bought a new Dri Rider Trophy jacket loverly and warm, water proof love it. I also picked up some new gloves bought my previous winter gloves on line they weren't that warm and are bloody bulky, new Spidi gloves $100 warm and comfy without being bulky. Like Langers said Loose Wheel glove gauntlets over the jacket cuffs keeps the wind and rain out. Azza

Azza Must admit I'm not big on cold when on the bike and only have myself to blame not having the right jacket for winter. With 3 leather jackets, a summer Dri-Rider, and a Belstaff jacket that's lacking armour, Julie reckons I have enough jackets. I beg to differ but don't voice my opinion in her hearing. Hence I layer up when it is cold. The Belstaff is NOT this one by the way: www.belstaff.com/men/ready-to-wear/jackets/the-panther-jacket-black%2Fbrown/71120006-39.html?start=5Same design but textile and made by Driza-bone when they were associated with Belstaff - and best of all, $25 from the Salvos and it fits like a glove.
