Hi all I'm Renie . I haven't ridden a bike in 25 years hubby and I brought ourselves bikes 3 weeks ago now . I have a Honda vt400 Shadow and hubby a Triumph America . We have 11 kids between us ( haha a Brady bunch we are) so this is our escape only 5 at home. I got my Ls last week so it's practice for me, like I said 25 years is a long time ...especially as the only riding I done back then was on a farm. one thing I've learnt thus far .... Women's bike gear is hard to find especially if you're not a little girl . Definitely a market out there for custom women's bike gear. Looking forward to to getting to know a few. Cheers ?

Hi Renie and welcome to the Shadow Riders Australia forum. I invite you to also register with Shadow Riders Australia. You will need to go to our website at www.shadowbikers.net and on the home page follow the registration process. Once you register, I will process your registration and send you a laminated registration card together with other information about Shadow Riders Australia. Registration is FREE. If you like you can purchase a metal membership badge or patch and become a member. Membership is also free, except the cost of the badge which is $15.00 with free delivery. An iron on patch is only $6.00. We have lots of other SRA merchandise also which you can view in our stores section. I look forward to receiving your registration. Oh by the way we have old members, I mean long time members, Annastasia and Cray who are in Dubbo. Perhaps you can catch up with them.

Hi Renie, welcome to the group I was a late starter to the joy of two wheels too, and started on exactly the same bike as you. I loved it, and even though I've moved on I still do love her. I'm sure you are going to fall for your baby in the same way, they are a great bike and quite forgiving for someone to learn on. Not to mention so much fun to customise! Yes Cray and I are long time members (glad you clarified the old nonsense George) who live in dubbo. It's a great area to live in, lots of empty roads to learn on, I'd suggest you stay away from the highways if you can, higher speeds can be daunting at first, I'll never forget my first highway trip to Newcastle, doing 80km/h and being passed be semi's .. eek. Anyhoo hope you are enjoying the new experiences, trust me there are more to come If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask, everyone here is super friendly and love to help each other. Oh yeah getting women's bike gear is hard .. even stuff made for women just doesn't seem designed for women's shapes .. no woman has a 10 inch waist damn it! And they don't seem to know about those bumps .. I found some of my gear in dubbo, at Matthew's and Robinson's, although I think Robinson's has gone with motocross gear now. Some stuff from eBay is ok, my kevlars are pretty nicely fitting, but they never seem to be just right. Boots I found the most difficult to find, ended up going with expensive ones, but they have been worth it because they fit perfectly and are a few years old with no signs of giving out yet. They are alpine stars, who have a good women's range and most of the big bike stores in the cities will have them.

Id love to stay away from the highway , its a bugger we live on the Newell (literally) so getting out of our driveway with nerves is a fun task but getting better at it ! More worried I will put a scratch on the bike than I am myself . Thank you for the welcome I'm pretty impressed with my bike. Looking for a sissy bar for her but undecided on which one will suit it best. Any suggestions welcome. Cheers

Hi Renie. I have processed your registration with SRA and mailed you your card and other info. Your husband is more than welcome to register and ride with SRA also. We welcome riders of any brand bike to register and/or ride with us. Unfortunately he cannot become a member though as only riders of Honda Shadow's and cruisers (VTX etc) are able to currently become a member.

Heh, yeah you get like that Renie, scenario goes .. you drop the bike .. husband leaps from his bike full of concern asking ..'omg babe, are you alright?!' You turn to him and say .. 'quick help me pick her up!' .. then you spend the next ten minutes checking your baby for damage and spotting every minute mark that you know wasn't there before .. only after assuring yourself that she is not too badly hurt do you turn to answer your husband ... 'yes' you nod 'I think she's okay'
Anyway as far as sissy bars go, there's a few out there, eBay and gumtree are good places to get them, sometimes you might see them here. It depends what you like and what you will be using them for. If you want a rack for luggage, check how much load they will take. I have one for sale atm ... But it's a riders only one, so you take the pillion seat off, has riders back rest and the rack sits over the guard which I loved because I liked the single seat look of the bike, plus with a heavy load of luggage on when we did longer trips it seemed more stable to me, but then that coulda just been in my head. If you're interested have a look here ..http://hondashadowriders.proboards.com/thread/4080/sale-solo-back-rack
The other thing to keep in mind is that your bike is basically the vt750 aero with a smaller engine, so if an accessory is listed as for the aero '09 and up then it will fit your bike. When buying from American sites you will find they have no idea what you are talking about when you say vt400.
