Love the idea of the location - its just the timing that may need some attention - Ayres Rock in January is hot, humid and generally very wet.
April to October affords the best weather there, so the "shoulder" periods (April & May and September & October) would mean less tourist traffic, more affordable accommadation and easier access. (my two cents).
Cheers, Scrap

Sed, first and foremost thanks for putting the motion forward, ie a trip for Shadow Riders to all get together. Timing wise I'm with Scrap April, May would be perfect. Ayers Rock hmm seems to me like a trip to Hell and Gone for a small mountain or big rock. Broken Hill would get my vote reason being for WA riders we could then visit Adelaide or go on to Melbourne or Sydney albeit in seperate groups or alone ie closer to other places more to see and do etc. If it was to Alice Springs then I would still express interest however just to meet up with the representative shadow riders etc. Perhaps a short list of destinations and departure months should be put forward then have a vote Cheers Greyshadow

Nice thinking there greyshadow,
April is a problem as well if you were to look at school holidays. (easter) However may seems like a good option.
I'm more than happy to go to broken hill, never been there either.
I think we could start with the following,
Could an administrator please open a new section on the home page. Called. SRA 2014 National Rally From there we could make a poll open to all members, give the choice of 3 months to vote on. April, May and June. The vote could last till the end of April 2012. We then pick the most favoured month.
From there we open debate about meeting places, Alice springs/ayers rock, broken hill. And so on.. Then after that we get some places on a poll and we vote again..
Then all we have to do is start planning. Numbers can be confirmed later, same with places to stay..
Sed

Since I'll probably be living n Mildura by then (a likely transfer in the next couple of months), and Broken Hill is only a few hours away from there...I say YES!!!!!

I'm all for a national meet. I've been to the Rock and also to Broken Hill. Both are great places. Yes the Rock is expensive. Accommodation/drinks/food are all extremely over priced, but it is one of those must see places. It's always going to be hard to organise such a big event. Perhaps a small National AGM committee should be formed and ideas/places/logistics etc explored. Australia is such a big place!

Pick Darwin. That way most people will have to ride over 3,000 km to get there.

we could always use the great central hwy and knock off about 2000k's of the journey from Perth to the rock ( it's about 1600k's each way ), only down side is it has 1000k's of gravel. Does that make it interesting enough ;D

What if we just put knobbly tyres on our cruisers and harden up the suspension settings? It could be a 1st if we did.

shadow riders take on the desert roads... i can see the headlines... but best part is entry to the rock is free from this way in... nothing like the back door to solve a problem or two ;D
