Hi Everyone,
Just got home about an hour or so ago, I have had my closest call with death today or extremely serious injury. Let me set the scene had a good day out with Louie scouting a planned ride said our goodbyes and I am on my way home just leaving Mundaring about 30k's out side of Perth a hills area. Any way I am in the left lane of a two lane major highway (Great Eastern Highway) travelling towards Perth on the other side of the Great Eastern Highway with Islands seperating the traffic is a young man travelling in the right hand lane going the Opposite direction ie going to Mundaring. This young kid, falls asleep behind the wheel craches over the island, hitting giant boulders of 1metre width I now have a Ute and bits of it, and a giant boulder, crossing my path and heading straight for me. In a split seconc I thought I'm dead, then no Live! I swerved the car passes me to my rear by 2ft I go between the car and giant boulder, I did not think I was going to make it, I steered between them the boulder passed six inches to the left of my front wheel. The ute skidded accross the two lanes and into a ditch. I went between his car and boulder and flying bits of car. I pulled up about 70 meters down the road, shaken and so gratefulll to have escaped. The kid was really upset, I am a father of boys who are 17 and 18 and responded with appropriate kindness. However this boy was very lucky not have killed a motorcylcist today. The police agreed I was very very lucky and indeed I was. If the car had been a couple of feet off I was dead, if the boulder had bounced right instead of left when we were six inches apart I would not like to think the shape I would be in. This happeded at about 5:45pm by the time I got back on the bike it was about 6:25pm and dark.
Just poured my self a bourbon and coke, so glad to make it home to the wife and kids and another chance to ride again. Or perhaps I'll trade the Shadow in on a Volvo.
Life can change in an instant.
Shit.
Greyshadow. PS please find attached photos, Car in ditch, car tyre tracks as it crossed the Island and the boulder on the left hand side that was thrown from the Island on impact to the side of the road behind that concrete manhole cover. That rock was thrown what twenty -30 meters
