I have just have ordered new Bridgestone tyres for my ace a Spitfire for the front and a Exedra for the back . Not many manufacturers make tyres to match front & rear sizes my question is I have never ridden on brand new tyres before (on a road bike) what should I watch for how long before they bed in

All tyres differ, also the road surface you ride on affects how quickly they wear in. I tend to ride on older style asphalt roads, the type where it looks rough. As in my opinion it roughs up the tyre a bit quicker than a brand new baby butt smooth road. But take corners slower than normal, as you also need to ready the sides of the tyre not just the middle..

Hi Grasshopper,
The key reason for being extremely careful for the first 100km or so, is that there is still wax residue on new tyres from the mould they were made in. The wax is used so the manufacturer can get the tyre out of the mould. Whilst the manufacturers clean the tyres after extraction, there is still a significant amount of wax left. So, ride really, really carefully for a while especially when leaning the bike; you'll know when the wax has worn off as the tyres will feel stickier.

About 20 mins of careful riding should do the trick.
