Congrats Anna, great to hear. But now you've got me worried - I didn't know that there was a right way and wrong way to mount. I've got a riders back rest (rolled over too many sheep in a past life and am very careful with the back these days) which means lifting the leg high & wide for a normal style mount. I find it much easier to approach from the right and do a John Cleese silly walk style of facing the side of the bike and lifting the left leg straight up and over (being a bit tall helps). Oh well, if people think it looks silly and get a laugh, I've made someone happy that day.
Cheers ... Mark

Yep, I know I would to! Maybe I need to explain. I got into trouble (a couple of times) for throwing my leg over and then straightening the handlebars ... His point being that I would hit the mirror if I didn't straighten them b4 I got on. Ok I see his point if I wasn't shorter than a leprechaun then I'm sure I would've. But its never been an issue for me so I found it interesting The reason I let this go for so long was that you were all coming up with so many varied and exciting ways to mount your bikes ;D

"I got into trouble (a couple of times) for throwing my leg over and then straightening the handlebars ..." Know exactly what you mean - I always seem to get into strife for wanting to throw the leg over (Had to be said)

Hey Anna,
Just a quick question.
Was the u-turn the only reason you didn't take your own bike to do your test?

Nope Mrsumo, it wasnt the only reason, tho it was a big part of it. The other factor for me was the tiredness after riding all day. I knew how tired I was going to be at the end of the day and I had timed the ride when we did it a few weeks earlier, I didnt think I'd make it home at all if I tried a 3 hour ride tired. As it was I was nearly asleep driving the car so I was very glad I didnt try to ride. There was one guy there who had a Virago, he started out on a hired bike, thinking the cruiser style bike would be harder to do the stuff on. After the first session on the bikes he went back to his Virago and found it a breeze. There's a pic of the bike he did it on here whiteshadowdiary.blogspot.com.au/2012/05/our-leaders-bike-came-out-first-only.htmlI guess it's what you are comfortable on, I have to admit it was hard getting used to the little CB's they use, but I also dont think I would have done a u-turn at that stage on the Shadow.

Ok fair enough.
I been trying to practice my uturns on Ida but her turning circle isn't the greatest. So I've been thinking about taking my mates vtr250 for the test. I did the uturn on it and it was a breeze. So contemplating whether I take Ida to do the test or not.

Ahh I would say if you are used to your mates bike and comfortable on it then use it. Yep the turning circle on the shadow isnt the greatest. If I could pass it on a 250 I'd never ridden before and found damn awkward to ride then you should breeze thru it on a bike you've ridden before. Make it as easy for yourself as you can imho. And

Huge Grats matey! Glad members were of some help, the only thing I know is that the rubber side needs to stay down;)
Best wishes for a long, prosperous, safe and joyous future on two wheels!!!
...and I generally prefer a leapfrog leap over the back-rest to mount my steed....
