after finally getting around to completing my P's test (in the rain, still fun) i now have the 12 months until i can get my grubby little hands on a 750 shadow. so in the opinion of the 750cc members, is it just better to buy a new 750 (around $10k) or are they generally tidy as a 2nd hand bike? and what did u do in ur situation? thanks in advance

When i first rode my 750 after a hiatias of 35yrs at least from riding a bike i was expecting great speed .From riding the 72 model 750,s around they were quick but i was taken back for a bit on the shadow ,they didnt seem to have the same grunt. But then i thought about it and realised these are cruisers ,geared lowered and made for long lasting riding of which they are tops. Yes i would,nt mind say a 1300 a bit more power. But after pillioning my good lady around they have the stamina for such riding . Serviced well and looked after they are a fantastic machine. But then i,m biased i supposed . ;D There is quite good deals out there to be bought that are kitted out as for-mentioned. However the thrill of getting a new one and turning it in to your own personal riding preference is exhilarating. (christ thats a big word for me ) ;D My view but i suppose you can do the same with a preloved machine as well Cheers Ray

The 750 might not beat the big boys but it will keep up with them for the whole day. The bigger the bike bike the more your cost will be (fuel, tyres insurance). You can go 750, 1100, 1300 or why not the 1800 where do you stop. Go and sit and if you can test ride them all ;D ;D ;D I've had my 750 for 5 years and I still get off it with a smile.

FWIW I think CC'c mean different things to different people... I know a lot of people who get caught up on wanting the biggest bike they can get so they can say its a bazzillion CC's I have an 1100 because im 6 ft and 100kg and it gets me up hills with ease and allows me to overtake fast getting me back in the lane Im suppose to be in. Also Im planning on building a scale tear drop caravan/ camper to tow behind it. Work out what you want your bike to do and what you expect from it over the next however long, things like dinking, towing, touring, racing or what ever, test ride a few and talk with people who own them and then get the one at or slightly above the CC you think you need. If I was 80kg and only wanting me on the bike doing mainly day trips with the odd overnighter Id have a 750 with panniers.... My 2c ... ;D ;D ;D

cheers shane and bobberbuilda. seems 1100 is becoming more reasonable, im not that small. seems im similar size to u bobber (im 6'1'' and 100kgs). i intend on panniers and a pillion (for the ladies ;D ) so i think 750 is cutting myself short abit.

Hey tintin. I have a 1999 1100 cc which I bought brand new. It is a great bike and I have never had any problems with it. It's got good acceleration, good grunt, good everything. If you have a look at the photos of when bobberbuilda and I went for a ride to Philip Island you will see we have the same bike, but they are so different!
