Hi folks , I've seen an advert for a new car on TV , can't think of the brand right now but whats bothering me a bit is it's claim to "hit the brakes when you forget to". The first thing thats bothering me ... everything shown in the advert that makes the car brake automatically is as big or bigger than the car itself , not only horizontally , but vertically . Does this indicate that the system is no good for objects smaller than the car..i.e. motorcycles ? pedestrians? The second concern , which is probably the bigger one is ... how much responsibility for actually DRIVING a car safely are car manufacturers going to be allowed to remove from the actual person behind the wheel? Personally I've never been a supporter of "automatic only" driver's licenses , except in some very certain circumstances , on the grounds that if you don't have the necessary coordination to drive a manual car , you probably don't have the coordination to drive at all. You don't drive an automatic , you just steer it . Likewise , if you cant pay enough attention to brake when you need to , or have the coordination and vision to parallel park , I don't think you should be allowed to drive at all. Trog

Yes I have also wondered about these so called breakthroughs as well as self parking and how much will these things cost at repair time. Would be a worth while question to ask Insurers
