G'day all has anyone got or had a grey import ? How did you go with insurance? Any other problems I need to know about ? The bike I'm looking at is a VTX1300c, this model wasn't released in Aussie, the only diff from the R/S models are alloy wheels and smaller guards from what I can tell so most parts should be available through Honda Aust

Hi Shane, I've owned 2 Grey import cars and did have to shop around for insurance, parts were no problem. The only major problem I found was that one of the cars, a "Toyota Surf" appeared to have a lot more km on the motor than the speedo reflected. My deisel mechanic (read son in law) reckoned the motor had done some serious km and was adamant the speedo had been replaced. Being an import this was impossible to check.

I imported a HD Fatboy Lo from the US. No dramas with anything. I do my own servicng and as the bike was also brought into Australia by HD parts are not an issue. ai also got the original speedo so I knew how many Ks were on the clock originally. The odo also reflected the appropriate Ks for a bike of its age.

This thing was built 2006 and only has 336klm on it. The bike looks brand new, so it should with that amount of k's or being from the states might be miles. The price is $10990 ride away. The 1800 I'm looking at is 07 model 18000 k's very good condition $11000 plus Vic rego.
This is not helping, Do I go for the 1800 with bucket loads of power, great brakes, small fuel range and average handling or Less power but still good, average brakes, better fuel range and better handling???

From what I have heard from different people the 1300s are far better bikes than the 1800 guy at work had an 1800 reckoned it was built on a monday when everybody had a hangover

All the searching I've done on the 1800 v 1300 the 1300 wins in the handling department but the 1800 wins power and braking departments. The looks are similar in the C model which is the one I'm after. ( over spoke wheels and large guards )
Guess it's like when I was younger, I had to get the GT not the GS, but in the end I got both ;D ;D ;D VTX 1800 wins

Handling on the VTX1800 is comparible to the other heavyweight cruisers and I've ridden a few including the M109r, VT1300CXA Fury, Fatboy Lo, Softail Customs, Dyna Wide Glides, Night Trains and a couple of others. The width of the front wheel does make the steering heavier but once you get used to you will hardly notice it. The only time I noticed it was when I kicked out the front rake by 6 degrees and then put a 21" front wheel on. Then it was like I had power steering.
By the way, the VTX1800 brakes were way ahead of their time and most manufacturers haven't really been able to surpass it yet.
