Hey all,
Well after much thought and intrinsic debate I've decided to shelve the Carbon Fibre bobber project (for the time being ) and go down the path of a bagger style cruiser...with Chrome, yes, chrome. My current needs and the upcoming Dubbo trip necessitate some form of carrying capacity on my bike. I'm simply tired of carting stuff in a backpack or smaller stuff in a shoulder bag.... I need BAGS ON the bike but I'm not a fan of leather (sorry to all our leather loving friends)
I found some affordable, stylish and decent carrying capacity hard bags/ They're the Mutazu brand, model MU style bag in Cobalt Blue. The Cobalt blue should do to match the Pearl Spencer Blue of my Shadow for now (at least I think the VT400 blue is Pearl Spencer Blue)... once I've some funds saved I'll take them into the local Car repairers and get them colour matched with the white accent to match my bike.
These are 40-litres each so pretty decent carrying capacity and they seem to have about a 90% approval rating over the net with only a few searched locating disgruntled owners. They are ABS plastic so not as sturdy as the Fibreglass ones but they are also 3 times cheaper when post is added. Although, they are ABS plastic they seem to have No issues with waterproofing and no issues with damage.
I've seen a couple of Shadow pictures with them installed and they look like a good match to suit the shape of my rear guard. I may need to relocate the indicators however, these also come with clear (or Red) rear lenses so instead of using the lights on the bags as running/brake lights I might wire them to my indicators and use either amber lens paint (using Vans lens spray paint) them or use amber lens to make them legal. OR!! I might get the red lens MU bag and just relocate my current indicators down to the number plate holder because they're still the legal height at the number plates.
Thus, do I keep the lenses on the Mutazu bags red to match the rear brake light and keep things nice and uniform or do i go clear lenses, get rid of the stock indicators and use the clear lenses as my indicators.
I reckon I'll get these bags unless any one here has 1st or 2nd hand negative experienced with them. As mentioned there are plenty of good and not so good stories on the net but at least 90% are good
Lastly, because I'm now going away from the bobber style look, I'll put the chrome overs on my Vance & Hines Short Shots to balance out the chrome look.
I'll eventually turn my VT400 into a bobber but most likely when I get a bigger cruiser bike. Then I'll have a bigger cruiser bike to travel on (and I'll install these Hard bags onto the bigger cruiser) This will leave my VT400 to become my transport to work and the shops but in a bobber style because I love the bobber look.
Here they are in Cobalt Blue:
Cheers, Pete
