I got a text message this morning about not mentioning going to pubs for lunch on rides because it might be seen to encourage drinking . Most clubs or groups that post rides go to pubs for lunch (look at most ulysses ride calendars) I think you need to post the ride as it is being run and be open about it . No one encourages any one to drink and we are all past ( some long past like me) legal drinking and decision making age . One of the clubs I ride with has a no alcohol till the ride finishes policy . I am not a drinker and would support a 0% bac for bike riders and if possible I will not ride with people who drink during a ride I got the impression because this came in a text it was not for open discussion but i think it needs to be

It was a polite text to all the QLD riders that I have a phone number for Grasshopper from me, and I support and understand the conversation we had at the AGM, so if you want to talk face to face lets do it.. Don't compare what we would like our members to do to other groups you ride with.. The reasons were discussed and understood by all who attended and I will happily explain them to you.

Maybe you got the wrong impression Grasshoper . When i recieved said text i took the comment that it was a done thing done at our AGM and will and did abide by it . Can see your point ,but is has been asked of us so we should abide the decision. As MRC said ,call him for a discussion ,no problems then i think .
Cheers Ray

Haven't got a number for you DAZ, all it basically said was when posting a ride we think it's a good idea not to post we are going to pubs for lunches so we don't leave ourselves open to the unthinkable.
text me 0402466900 if you don't mind me having your number..
It's not a big deal and I really hope QLD riders support it..

I think it is really important that we all respect the discussion that was had at the AGM. Those of us present saw how emotive this topic can be.
Basically it is about protecting yourself.
If you don't like it don't ride.

A lot of us were not there for the AGM but even so we should be allowed to voice our opinion whether or not it is contrary to the decision on the day, that is what free speech is all about . I did think it needed to be opened up for any and all opinions to be voiced . I think there are a hell of a lot more things to worry about and protect yourself on a ride than this .

GrassHopper, Cliffy you are totally missing the point, I'm not going to mention it anymore, but if/when the unthinkable person goes to lawyer and says we took him to a pub (and it's in writing) I will refer him to your post.... Just to finally add when we are riding everyone has freedom of choice where to eat lunch, there has been multiple times that the group choose dfferent places to eat..
Take it from a person who has been sued because I blinked and didn't think that such a minute thing could be spun around in a court..

Mrc, I totally get the point you are trying to get across, but from what you are saying just posting a ride makes you liable, so where do you start and where do you stop In reality each an everyone of us makes choices and takes risks and we should consider which risks and what outcomes may occur. If we didn't it just would not be worth getting out of bed each morning I guess this is the result of the litagious blame game society we live in these days

Exactly right. Unfortunately we seem to be following the American way of sue everyone for everything. The idea to Not post in writing on forums, web site etc, our plans to stop at such places as wineries and pubs serves to not only protect the organizer of the ride but also doesn't project that as an association we condone drinking an riding. I totally agree that it's not right that we have to even consider such actions these days but the sad reality is that we do thanks to the litigation eager turds of society. when did living get so complicated?

So why not something as simple as a ride rule stating. " No alcohol to be consumed on any Shadow ride" and reinforced with each ride posted ?
