I had a quick look at the flyers that have been posted on this site alone .. from what I could see the only ones that mention Pubs at all are ones that aren't for actual rides. If there's a ride involved there isn't mention of pubs as venues. I dont have a huge amount of experience in organised rides but it seems to me that large organised rides do exactly the same as what we are now doing .. when you post a ride you dont mention pubs or places that serve alcohol as meeting places, most seem to meet at public places like sports fields or parks. Dont get me wrong I dont want to argue, I was confused about this at the meeting and couldn't see why it was an issue and said so. Now that I've thought about it I realise that yes this is about protecting ourselves and really not that much of an issue. Meet at a park or carpark and lunch at a town is all we need to do Just saying

I have another post on this forum about the same subject as I said we are all above legal drinking age we all have decided to do some that is inherently dangerous (don't let anybody tell you motorcycling is not dangerous) we are old enough to make our own decisions as Cliff said the pub is a meeting place and I as Cliff has noted most riders do not drink in the middle of a ride (wouldn't say the same for the end of a ride though) bit like the saying you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink . I would think this gets back to what entity Shadow Riders Australia actually is one of the reasons I won't post or lead a shadow ride I did quick look at ulysses ride calendar last night still posting rides to pubs ??

If your going to a pub or not is not the issue, putting in in writing before hand is. as a member of this owner's group I abide by the groups decisions. As for the Ulysses club you pay a membership and they have public liability insurance, we don't .

I have not ridden with any of you who have been seen to drink too much and the matter was never raised because of this. Looking out for one another is something we all do without being asked on rides but "best policy" and "duty of care" would indicated that avoiding the identification of pubs as meeting places is wise. Remember some rides have guest riders who may not feel obliged to abide by SRA guidelines. We need to look at all scenarios as we live in a strange world where apportioning blame is commonplace after the event (although not within SRA thankfully).
