I always felt a little cramped during long rides on my Shadow , but not being of the "how's the weather up there?" tall persuasion , I've tended to shy away from adding forward controls for fear of not being able to reach my pegs and controls afterwards...
Then I found the Scootmods 4 inch forward control kit on ebay and thought "oh well , why not".
The most difficult thing was actually disconnecting the plugs for the O2 sensor wiring before removing the exhaust system .. tips .. do this before you undo any bolts on the exhaust system. Pop the connectors off the plate on the frame they're attached to before trying to disconnect the wiring , they're attached by a plastic expansion connector , just get behind it and squeeze it and pull towards you. The lower O2 sensor wiring is attached to a little plastic keeper just where it crosses through the frame and out to the O2 sensor , it's just two cable ties holding it there ..cut the one you can see then spin the keeper around and cut the other one , replace these when you put it all back again so your wiring doesn't hit the hot engine .
I spent about 3 times the "average" time of 45 minutes (according to the instructions and the video link they sent me) putting mine on , but you can attribute that to two main things : 1 me being paranoically careful as I'm very much the average joe non mechanic and 2 me being somewhat retentive cleaning all the bits I took off that had to go back on again.
While these are slightly more pricey than some others available on ebay at $150.00 plus freight from the US , they have a really nice "almost original equipment" look to them .
Once I've decided I'm 100% happy to keep them and not ever remove them again I will go back and grind off the original brake pedal spring retention plate , but as you'll see below it's still there for now . After one ride I'm 90% sure they're never coming back off...
Cheers
