"]Well its been a little over three weeks since the lady decided to park her car behind another stationary vehicle already positioned in the median strip providing me with the perfect opportunity to imbed the front of my bike in her driver's door. This action generated an immediate inquiry from her as to where I had come from? She was much too mature to be asking about the birds and the bees so I summized that her question pertained to as to where I had riden from, which I duly informed her with some extremely colourful language.
Being on some blood thinning medication, the bruising was extensive - I swear my body looked like a Dockers supporter. The only persistant pain has been in my left thumb. X-ray showed no major fracture but there was a suspicion of a flake at one of the joints. When the swelling subsided a week later, an ultrasoubnd showed ruptured tendons and possible avulsion fractures.
Surgery to repair the damage is completed. Once they opened up the thumb, the damage was worse than at first thought. The tendons were indeed ruptured, but one had been ripped off the bone and is now stapled back in place. I have the joy of wearing a thermo-plastic brace for 6 weeks - one week down - 5 to go and I'm going insane already..
Bike has sustained $8.5k damage. Initially it was going to be written off, but as a different insurance company to my own has accepted liability - they are going to repair it. Unfortunately the lovely chocolate metallic finish cannot be duplicated so the bike will be changing colour to black (Okay, okay - black is not a colour, its the absence of colour, but you know what I mean). Bad news is that its going to take a while to repair but seeing as I can't ride anyway, I will live wth it. Damage in my first ever motorcycle accident last year was $9K but the spooky coincidence of both accidents happening on the 11th of June at 7:45am from vehicles crossing stop signs on my left means that next year - I'm staying in bed all day on the 11th of June.[/font]
