Hi all. After already experiencing my 1st flat tyre. Of course it had to be the rear, and as I have spoke wheels it was a hole in the tube. It was highlighted to me I need some type of bike recovery plan. As such I am considering buying a new trailer, but don't want to get a bike specific trailer. I started to grind the mind and was thinking of getting something custom made. However I came across a company that apparently thought the same way I do. www.platinumtrailers.com.au/I was hoping for some feedback from any and all out there. I am a little concerned about the tipping feature. Although useful for loading a cruiser as less chance of bottoming out at the top of the ramp. I am concerned at all my pulling power relying on the 4 pin points attaching the draw-bar to the trailer. I suppose I could always get stronger pins if this was really the only drawback. I went and saw his wares and they look ok. He has them fabricated in china then assembles in Oz. They seem very robust, in fact the 50mm square pipe he uses on the upper cages seemed a little overkill to me, but what do I know. I am also looking at using this trailer to extend my wife and I riding range. The plan is to load our bikes, drive somewhere for a weekend. Off load bikes and enjoy the local scenery. This is the plan as I think long hauls are not our thing. Was considering this plan of attack if I can get time off for the AGM. Looking forward to what you guys think. Especially those with an engineering perspective.

Mmmm not a bad looking rig mate. The pins you are referring to are they the ones on the bike wheel support. If so you won't have a problem there. Shear strength on them would be quite high. Couldn't see the tipping tie down but if they are only pinned down then a heavy duty over centre catch would be better. No dramas putting them on. I, d be putting a thin plate on the inside of the wheel arch. The crud that would come through there and spray your bikes would be enormous. Be like sandblasting. Cheers Ray

Thanks Ray. Did not note the wheel arches. Nothing that a piece of sheet metal won't fix easily.

Hi Gonz, I have a trailer of similar design to their bike trailer for the dirt bikes. I would be very concerned about trying to load 250 plus kg bikes on to a tilted platform that in not ram assisted. Once two bikes are up there that's half a ton that needs to be either tilted up or down. I have not tried to get my shadow onto the trailer so don't know if the ramp would be long or strong enough. Something like this would be good www.discount-trailers.com/drop-tail-motorcycle-trailer.htmCheers Azza

Hi Gonz,
Find it amusing that they call that a box trailer - looks more like a flatbed to me!.
I used to cart my shadow around on a 6 x 4' box / garden trailer with no problem. I "temporarioly relocated on a permanent basis" a scafolding panel to used as a ramp which, even with a flat tyre, I could drive the bike up. I carry a puncture kit with me everywhere now, but I could still use this trailer to cart my bike around behind the motorhome if we went travelling.

That is a seriously good trailer rig for the cruisers. Do they sell these over here?
