Not sure about the law but if you decide to go for it I would suggest getting one with the spikes on the outside ;D

I can't guarantee this is correct but I was told by a policeman on a bike that he "thought" those mowhawk ones had to be attached with rubber suction caps, not the strong adhesive tape they come with as that would be classed as a helmet modification. Don't know about the metal spikes I have seen on EBay etc.
Cheers Roger.

I can't tell you about QLD laws, but in VIC they would be illegal. Inside or out;).
Basically, it would be classed as a modification to the helmet and would nullify the Australian Standards certification, if it is permanently attached or you use any kind of adhesive (As Roger said, suction cups may be the only way to avoid that). In VIC, the only part of your apparel that must have Australian Standard Certification are the Helmet & Visor...that's for your protection. Plus, as you probably already know, any adhesive used on the helmet will compromise the integrity of the shell.
The fine you'd get may be substantial, but still nothing in comparison to the state of your head after you come off with compromised protection to the noggin...which we hope never happens of course!
The only other alternative is to find a spiked helmet specifically manufactured with Aus Standards....which I haven't seen yet (but then I haven't been looking either).

We sell spike bolts, spike tyre valves, spike air intakes, spike grips. Never had any problem with them and none of my customers have either.
