Where & how are you guys displaying your rego? The tubes look OK but a friend of mine was pulled up by the cops recently for using one. They said they were not legal however they let him off with a warning. I mentioned this at my local bike shop & he reckons the cops don't know the law. His impression is they are legal as long as you can rotate them & see the entire rego sticker through the window. Either way I have to do something about mine, as you can see from the photo, it looks pretty dorky sticking out the way it does.

Hi Clary, Yeh the Rego tubes are a bit of of funny one I have read several reports on them in the Cruiser mags I read and they say that under the point of the law they are legal but if the police want to they will write you up and let you fight it. I bought a combined nr plate and rego sticker plate/fitting whatever from www.yellr.com/bykebits/products.htmlots of styles and looks, polished Stainless, Look pretty good if I may say so Dawg

According to ADR 61/02
(L Group vehicles are motorcycles)
9. REGISTRATION PLATES AND LABEL HOLDERS 9.1. Registration Plates 9.1.1. All Vehicles other than L-Group Vehicles: 9.1.1.1. provision must be made for mounting a registration plate (as shown in Figure 1) to be affixed to the rear of the vehicle so that no part of such plate is more than 1,300 mm from the ground. 9.1.1.2. provision must be made for mounting a registration plate (as shown in Figure 1) to be affixed to the front of the motor vehicle forward of and parallel to the front ‘Axle’ so that no part of such registration plate is more than 1,300 mm from the ground. 9.1.1.3. no part of a vehicle, including its standard equipment, regular production options or ‘Equipment’ must be so located as to obscure any part of the registration plate(s). 9.1.2. L-Group Vehicles Only: 9.1.2.1. provision must be made for mounting a registration plate to the rear of the vehicle so that the centre of each registration plate must not be less than 300 mm from the ground. 9.2. Label Holder 9.2.1. All vehicles, other than L-Group vehicles, which have no windscreen, must have a holder for the registration label affixed to their left-hand side in such a position as to be clearly visible to a person facing the holder at a distance of 6 metres. 9.2.2. For L-Group vehicles, a holder for the registration label must be affixed in a conspicuous position on the vehicle.
I would also check with your local licencing regs to ensure they haven't tacked on anything else.

Just needs to be visible, preferabbly to the left (rear is generally used but not compulsory), but needs to be visible from 5 metres....this is where I have mine...

Great work Simon! PS: From a copper's point of view, you'll never get pulled up for it specifically, but if there are other offences being committed and/or you fail the "attitude" test, a non-compliant label location is just another penalty in our bags.

Good news is that in WA light vehicles (bikes, cars & trailers) don't need to display a rego sticker / tag any more.

They use licence plate scanning technology to automatically check vehicles registration and owners licence status, outstanding tickets etc etc.

Thanks for the responses guys. Think I'll give the tube a go. I try not to do anything the give the law a reason to pull me up so hopefully I will be OK.
