As you guys and girls have figured by now I like to get a lot of info on things that's I do and later this year I can upgrade from my 2001 VT400 Shadow (not sure what I'm going for yet) but the big question for me since I love my 400 do I sell it or keep it? I love this bike and so does my son (who is 8). What will I get for it to sell it vs trading it in from your experiences? If its not a lot of $ would this bike be worth keeping for my son. Yeah it will be ten years but a nice slow restore and by then the bike will 23-24 years old and almost a classic. Or will this style/year/model never be that sort after? I welcome all ideas and thoughts since I know you all probably have the same attachment to your rides

If you don't need the money, and have the space, keep it! As Shane says, great father son time! Lot of money though, either to keep regoed each year or to sit around for ten years!

I welcome all ideas and thoughts since I know you all probably have the same attachment to your rides Emotional attachment can cloud your thoughts, its happening to me all the time with my 750vt 1998 I would like a bigger bike, but do I trade Jen in or keep her? I don't have room for her at home in the garage for 2 cars and 2 bikes, as it is, my car lives in the drive so Jen can stay warm and dry. Then I realised I have storage that I'm paying every month and she would fit in there nicely. So when the day comes and I get told what the physical value of her is, compared to all the love we have shared, the decision will be a lot easier. I would keep her. Hope this helped. Cheers Paul

Glad to know its not just me that has an attachment! Does anyone know the $ value of a 2001 400? Whatever you think its worth in $ value, half it then remove the 'dud' the customer amount, and there's your price. Nothing according to Peter Stevens. That's why your son will love it like you do. cheers

Just for the record .. nope I will never get rid of my 400 .. she's my first love and when I do get another bike she will still be there. I think its alovely thought keeping it for your son regardless of future value .. it will be special.

Yeah starting to agree especially with you Puff Peter Stevens will give two halves of fuck all for it as a trade in and private probably only 1/8 more! Has anyone held onto a bike for 10 years or so? How would the motor go? Need to be rode every now and again I would assume to keep her going. FYI she hast got a name yet I better get onto that

Which of course is the perfect segue for:
Once upon a time, a Prince asked a beautiful Princess,
"Will you marry me?"
The Princess immediately said, "No!"
And the Prince lived happily ever after, and rode motorcycles and dated thin, long-legged, full-breasted women, and hunted and fished and raced cars, and went to titty bars and dated ladies half his age and drank whiskey, beer, and Captain Morgan, and never heard bitching and never paid child support or alimony, and dated cheerleaders and kept his house and guns, and ate spam and potato chips and beans, and blew enormous farts, and never got cheated on while he was at work, and all his friends and family thought he was friggin' cool as hell, and he had tons of money in the bank, and left the toilet seat up.
The End.
Oh, it's a fairy tale by the way - just in case any of you blokes thought that one of us had got lucky!
