Ok, so I'm racking up points on being the dumbest learner ever...not sure how many I need to win the title, but can't be far off. So....
Bought a new motorcycle GPS for $140 at ALDI. It's great, easy to use, not so easy to install. After about an 20 mins of trying to get the seat off Betty so I could access the battery (note to those who don't already know, having saddlebag frames makes it really difficult to access required hex key screws....I hate hex keys....). Anyway, got it off, hooked in the wiring to the battery, got the seat back on after a further 40 mins...bitch screws wouldn't align and hard to get the bloody hex key in when you have pannier frames (did I mention that twice, its worth mentioning twice). It all looked great and seemed to work great.
Then went on a 300K ride today with a group of guys from netrider...learned I should've wired the GPS up to the ignition and not directly to the battery....not that it's a problem, I just have to make sure I remove the unit when the bike's not on so as not to drain the battery (and I have no idea how to wire it to the ignition). Bugger.
It would also seem that in my efforts to remove and re-attach seats, I didn't notice that my right saddlebag's position had lowered to be sitting on my pipes. That's right, ON my pipes. I did notice a burning smell during the ride, but couldn't work it out until we had finished. I now have this odd black pool of melted leather sitting on top of my exhaust, and also have a matching burnt leather warped feature at the base of the bag. Nothing I can do about the bag except be grateful it didn't burn a hole right through....but what the Fr@k can I do about the pool of black crap now attached to my chrome pipes?
I have now also just racked up my first 1000K's, and have almost resigned myself to hang my head low when I take her into the dealer for the first service. I don't want to have to pay them extra to fix up Betty because of my utter stupidity, and hoping for any advice on offer...
