Hi All - have been reading these posts with interest. I'm doing a trip to Bendigo at the end of March. Pretty well organised but one thing concerns me a little - I have have ZERO knowledge about bike repairs/maintenance (ashamed to say - would love to but have never had opportunity to learn). Anyway, do you reckon that will be a big drama? Traveling on my own. Having bike serviced before I go & figured if anything went wrong, I'd just have to rely on NRMA or RACV. What do you think? L

L Well for mine Lisbeth i'd read them again and really take on board the absolute necessities that are outlined here. Done the right thing with the bike service ,allshall be well there we hope. Steve's suggestion about the slime for your tyres is a good one .Iff you puncture a tyre and nobody is about it could be quite a discerning time for you. This stuff should eliminate this problem . If you have been checking Moe;s meanderings out ,before he shoved off from my place we put that slime in both tyres. Just carry your basic tools that you should have already and your personal papers in case of those things we dont like to talk about. Maybe if you have time try to do a basic course in m/c maintenance. Just make sure all lights work fine before going each day ,oil levels are good ,and keep the fuel well replenished for a certain distance. Have a safe trip when you do go and dont forget the camera. Cheers Ray

Bought ball of string after reading Kingy's posts/replies Prob won't get time to do basics course but could you recommend one - just in case? Would love to do one anyway. Thx for advice. Brilliant. Hope Bribie ride is on on March 1. Looking forward tommeeting everyone. Thx again. L

You should have some spanners in side one of your engine covers or under the seat. If not buy the phillips head and a flat head screw driver and a litte set of either of open end spanner or ratchet ones are the go. Mainly i think 8,10 ,12, 14mm would suffice. Yes a small shifter ,6in would be heaps. Oh a set of ellen keys would be handy ,metric . Cheers Ray

There is an excellent product called Fuel Dr. or that may be the other way round. But riders I ride with swear by it. If you have fuel troubles (bad batch, water etc) aparently Fuel Dr. will fix it when your engine complains about fuel quality. Just a thought. How many clicks do you expect to cover on this jaunt of yours?

Cheers Ray Ray, doesn't that slime only work in tubeless tyres? Can you have tubeless tyres if you have 'spoked' wheels? I know I tried that stuff in a previous bike with spoked wheels (& tubes) & it wouldn't work.

Mac, it does work in Tubed tyres, you have to deflate tyre and remove valve and kida pour in as long as you ensure you coat the inside of the tube it works fine. The Phssssh stuff works vvery well had a puncture in the postie bike used it and did 400k before I thought to change tube. Both will get you out of trouble, I prefer the pressurised product as it gives you some inflation options you havent got with the other.
