Folks, for the last 6 years I've been carrying my gear around in a sissy bar bag, but it's slowly falling apart so it's time to update. New ones seem to cost about $140 and up. Then I started thinking about installing a Top Box similar to this. The plus is the the price ($60 for something like this, not an Rjay), security, waterproofing and no need to carry the bag around when stopped. However I'm concerned about how it would look on the Shadow. So, does anyone here have one on their bike? If so, can you post a pic so I can see the result. Also, do they require a special mounting bracket or can it be secured to a regular luggage rack like this one? Your help is appreciated.

Good morning Clary, I know these are very practical but in my opinion as the a found on just about every scooter in town they don't do any favours to the tuff stance of the shadow. Some of the guys at the AGM had a piece of ply in their bags so they could bolt it to the luggage rack to stop it walking off. Azza

Had a top box on my VTX for 2yrs (for work purposes) was great as a waterproof secure way of carting gear.firstly your backrest would have to go (unless you built a platform for the box to open above the rest) Fittit to most racks (8"×8" will be the minimum size for the rubberized platform. Is really easy as the fitting is usually a sprung washer arrangement with wingnuts to fix. Topboxes can be easy to remove with one nut which has a small handle arrangement (30secs) The only tell tale sign is the fitted rubber mount on your rack. Aesthetitically not the best look on a cruiser.but practically, when you wish to carry gear safely securely and effortlessly? If you want a tough looking cruiser style go a leather topbox version?

Hey Clarry, I know it's an old thread, but what happened with the bag / topbox purchase?
I'm now looking for the same thing, as I have the above setup with sissy-bar.

Hi Matt, yeah I put it on, real easy to do. I had to take off the sissy bar but that was no worries as the box forms its own back rest for pillion riders. Here are the picks. And an internal light for night time riding.

Yeah, I read that. This thing is held down by a central threaded fixture. It makes it easy to remove if you want, about 15 seconds, but I can see how it may become a tad flimsy if it's filled to capacity or there's a lot of weight applied to it. I've never ridden pillion myself, but I imagine the backrest is more of a reassurance to the passenger that there's something behind them so they won't roll off the back, than it is an actual support bar. I think the passenger is more likely to lean forward with the rider than they are to sit up straight and lean back on the rest. However it did happen so it's something to think about.

Yeah it was mine it happened to, Brenda has a back injury so needs the support Seeing as I never took the old one off, I have permanently attached the box to the bracket by putting 4 screws though it to braces under the pack rack, it ain't coming out now
