G'day all. For the last 5 weeks or so, I've had some pain in the right hip which has been causing me some grief I started when I stepped off the bus at work and had parked it in a different spot, the step down to the ground was about 6 inches higher than normal and caused me to get a jolt in the hip To cut a long story short it gradually got worse until last week when it went downhill fast. Monday I had an MRI and it showed that I had a labral tear From DR GoogleThe labrum is a rim of soft tissue or fibrocartilage that surrounds the acetabulum (hip socket). The labrum adds to the stability of the hip by deepening the socket and protects the joint surface. The labrum can tear as the result of an injuryThe picture shows a front tear, mine is at the rear and involves almost half the circumference till "at least 12 o'clock" according to the MRI I'm now off work since Monday, I can sit fairly comfortably, which is good for riding (but not too long) but I can't stand up straight and I walk with a nasty limp and the aid of a walking stick I've got into a neuro surgeon on the 19th of this month and have to wait for his assessment but it'll will most likely need an operation to repair (stitch) the labrum I was hoping to get an SRA ride organised before the end of the year but that is now well and truly out of the question

What time frame they reckon for it to heal mate . Though i suppose it depends on your activity .

I won't know anything until I see the surgeon At the moment I'm just doing some hydro therapy to keep up the muscle tone so if I do have an op, it should speed things up a bit I accidentally twisted on it this morning and it felt like someone shot me in the R-send

Went to see the surgeon today and it's not all bad news whilst there is a labral tear he doesn't seem to think that is the main cause of the pain, there is arthritis showing up in the x-rays and MRI and he seems to think that is the majority of the problem The jolt I got when I stepped off the bus started something that was coming along slowly (as it does when we get older) and brought it to a head. He's sending me for an injection of local anaesthetic and cortisone (IN the hip joint, sounds like fun)to see if it has a drastic affect. If it does, the that's the right treatment and hopefully the cortisone will help heal it mostly while the anaesthetic will keep me out of pain for about 1 and 1/2 hours, it also means that somewhere down the track, I'll need a hip replacement If it doesn't then he has to re-look at the possible cause But he says that with the way I presented and the tests he did, he is confident that the injection will prove to be the way to go

Had the jab yesterday, wasn't as bad as I had been led to believe, no pain for an hour and a half and no the pain is bearable with panadol osteo and I can even walk without a limp or walking stick, only need to use it if I walk more than 50 meters but just for support as the labral tear is causing a bit of discomfort, back to work next week
